ALTERNATIVE SELECTION
DPW developed the preferred alternative based on the four project goals - Decrease Motor Vehicle Speeds, Increase Walkability, Better Organize
Traffic to Improve Safety for All Users, and Create On-Street Bicycle Connections - feedback on the design alternatives received during
engagement in February 2023, and comments from corridor stakeholders.

PREFERRED ALTERNATIVE - S. 27TH TO S. 6TH STREET

The preferred alternative is composed of four sections that correspond to different needs and activities throughout the corridor. Taken together, the
four segments phase in a road diet to reduce speeding, provide left turn lanes, and add facilities for people biking between 22nd and 6th. Through
the use of pedestrian refuge islands, pinned-down bump-outs, transit islands, and high visibility crosswalk markings at priority locations at major
signalized intersections and uncontrolled crossings near parks and schools, the preferred alternative also increases safety for people walking and
using assistive devices
