Proportion​ ​is the size of the 
components, or of the objects in 
relation to one another when taken as 
a composition or a unit. 

 
▪ E​ mphasis​ a​ llows the attention of the viewer to a focal point(s), 
accentuating or drawing attention to these elements or objects.  

▪ ​Contrast​ ​is the disparity between the elements that figure into 
the ​composition. 

 
▪ ​A similar element throughout a 
work  of  art  that  brings  the 
parts together. 
▪ ​Refers to the direction of the ​viewing 
eye as it goes through the ​artwork, often 
guided by areas or ​elements that are 
emphasized. 

Repetition – lines, shapes, colors, ​and 
other elements may appear in ​a recurring 
manner.  
▪ ​Pattern – the image created out of 
repetition 
Activity 1.4: Create your own logo, emblem, or symbol based on the guiding 
principles of art. The image can be about a particular advocacy you want to 
promote, a tool or gadget you envision creating the future, or just simply 
you ​as a future professional. What color would represent your envisioned 
brand? ​What would be the shape and what does it symbolize? How would 
you compress information yet have a strong impact in your imagery? (30 
points)
