Traffic Education Awareness among Tricycle Drivers, Philippines

INTRODUCTION

Traffic education is described as a formal form or informal education. People must

do it the wisdom of Traffic Terms and Regulations like Parking, No Parking, Using
Speed Breakers and Traffic Signs, provisions in the Act on Motor Vehicles, Accidental
Accident Tips for Motorcycles, Tricycle Tips, Accidents Scene, Traffic Control, and so
on. The main purpose of the road salvation is the control of the casualties. Children
are the high-risk group in traffic. Traffic education is essential for equipping children
sufficiently to become safe road users (Goniewicz et al., 2017).
In a developing country like Nepal, where the literacy rate is then lower, there
is a higher chance of road accidents due to imperfection (Goniewicz et al., 2017).
In the Philippines, traffic is due to the lack of discipline of jeepney, bus, taxi, and
tricycle drivers to stop halfway to get passengers. As a citizen, the best way to help is to
consider the street rules and love it now. For drivers, being a protective driver, it’s
best to be safe. Accidents all aggravate. It will affect your time, your car, your car and
everything else threatening your life. There are many experiences of corruption in the
Philippines; therefore, the donation is likely to go to the “pocket” of the officer.
Accidents all aggravate. This will affect your time, car, other cars, and most of all,
it will hurt your life (Chua, 2012).

Land Transportation Office (LTO) registration, a barangay clearance for their place
operation and payment of registration fees. In the city of Mandaluyong, tricycle drivers
must be bona fide residents and have to hold accident insurance. It also needs tricycles
to carry trash and rig silencers in their exhaust pipe. Tricycle drivers are the only ones
who are permitted to operate within a boundary. The borders are divided according
to different Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Associations (TODAs) at a Local
Government Unit (LGU). TODAs consist of the following tricycle, driving sector
tricycle Drivers need to get TODA permission before the trip within the boundary.

This study’s perseverance is to gauge the indicators, classify, and identify the
Level of Traffic Education among Tricycle Drivers in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.
Those who have no license or students permit and also highlight problems or issues
that can put them into traffic violations and avoid being deviant operators. All the
drivers must take utterly in driving because, in every violation, there is a consequence
as to the result of their action. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to make the
rules known by the drivers and motivate each individual to follow the traffic rules
and regulations.

FRAMEWORK

Social learning theory, as extended of Albert Bandura, talked about the

behavior of person learned to the environment through the process of observational
learning. Social learning theory combines cognitive learning theory which posits
that learning is influenced by psychological factors, and behavioral learning theory,
which assumes that learning is based on responses to environmental stimuli.
Psychologist Albert Bandura integrated these two theories in an approach called social
learning theory and identified four requirements for learning namely observation,
retention, reproduction and motivation. People learn by observing behaviors, attitudes
and outcomes of others’ behavior. “Most human behavior is learned by observation by
modelling: from observing others, one forms an idea of how new behaviors are
performed, and coded information served as a guide for action. The theory of social
studies explains human behavior in terms of continuous interaction between
cognitive, behavioral, and environmental influences (Bandura, 2018).
The theory of social studies suggests the importance of observing and modelling
the behaviors, attitudes, and emotional reactions of others. The study is too much, not
to mention the danger if people have to rely solely on their own actions to let them
know what to do. Fortunately, most human behavior is learned observationally through
modelling. From observing others one forms an idea of how new behavior is
performed, and on later occasions, this coded information served as a guide for
action.

Research Instrument
The researchers used questionnaires to gather information relevant to the
study. The questionnaire had different parts that affect the level of traffic education
among Tri- cycle Drivers in Buenavista. The form that was used in the study; came
from the Traffic Management and Accident Investigation Book of Darlito Bernard G.
Delizo (2015). It also anchored from the study of Bitangcor, J., Balunan, K., Medina,
R.J., (2018) entitle “The level of Traffic Education among the Student of Saint Michael
College of Caraga.”

Data Gathering Procedure

In gathering the data, the researcher wrote a letter to the Head of BTMO, Mr.
Felicisimo Sabanal. Requesting that the researcher be allowed to conduct the study on
the Tricycle Drivers and Traffic Officers. After the approval was given, the researcher
presented the latter to the Head of BTMO, and the scheduled date was set as to the
availability of the respondents and for the distribution of questionnaires. After this, the
questionnaires were gathered for quantification.

Statistical Analysis
In presenting, interpreting, and analyzing the researcher’s data, the percentage,
and Step-Wise Regression were statistical tools and techniques.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Table 2. Summary of the Level of Traffic Awareness

Level of Traffic Awareness Average Weighted Mean Verbal Description
1. Drivers 3.42 Extremely Aware
2. Traffic Officers 3.72 Somewhat Aware

Table 2 shows a summary of the Level of Traffic Awareness in a significant differ-

ence in the level of Traffic education. It further of two-level shows that Tricycle
Drivers rated of 3.42 in Weighted Mean and Extremely Aware of Verbal
Description.
These findings support the study of Huybers & Houten (2013) that sign when
used alone, decreases motor the conflicts of the car and increased motorist have grown
distance. Further decrease in motorcycles and additional increases at the arrival
distance is associated with additionally, the mark on the arrival of the road. In
experiment 2, the response to the asphalt marks, if used alone, effectively reduces
motor motorcycles and much more distance as the sign along with road markings.
These data suggest that asphalt marks are a significant part of reducing conflicts and
increasing run distance.

educated about traffic laws and regulations. They are also aware that driving under the
influence of al- cohol and any dangerous substance is prohibited by law.
Education in traffic safety can be carried out on three levels by (1) imparting
the knowledge concerning traffic safety wherein the need for safety training, and
education emphasized; (2) the practice and training of traffic safety knowledge in
the actual ap- plication which deals the practical aspects of safety education wherein
one is taught to become capable of moving about in a safe manner; and (3)develop
safety morality is concerned with ethics or safety morality wherein a foremost portion
of traffic accidents would be prevented if all the people were utterly moral or
ethical, in principle, with respect to traffic (Valdueza, 2013).
