Figure 1
Use nodal analysis to find v1, v2, and v3. Let R1 = 10Ω, R2 = 8Ω, R3 = 10 Ω, R4 = 5 Ω, is
= 2A, vs = 1V.
Figure 2
3. Using mesh analysis, find the currents i1 and i2 and the voltage across the upper
10-Ω resistor in the circuit of Figure 3.
Figure 3
4.
In the circuit shown in Figure 4, the source and node voltages are
VS1 = VS2 = 110V
VA = 103V VB = −107V
Determine the voltage across each of the five resistors.
Figure 4
5.
Refer to Figure 5 and use the principle of superposition to determine the current i
through R4 .
Assume:
R1 = 12Ω, R2 = 8Ω, R3 = 5Ω, R4 = 3Ω, VS = 3V, and IS = 2A.
Figure 5
6. For the circuit shown below, use superposition to find the power being dissipated in
R3.

a) Some aluminum wire has a resistance of 50Ω at 20◦C. The wire is heated to a
temperature of 100◦C. Determine the resistance of the wire at 100◦C, assuming that the
temperature coefficient of resistance at 0◦C is 0.004/◦C.
b) The resistance of a coil of nickel wire at 20◦C is 100Ω. The temperature of the wire
is increased, and the resistance rises to 130Ω. If the temperature coefficient of the
resistance of nickel is 0.006/◦C at 20◦C, determine the temperature to which the coil
has risen.
10. Electrical equipment in an office takes a current of 13A from a 240V supply.
Estimate the cost per week of electricity if the equipment is used for 30 hours each
week and 1 kWh of energy costs R0.125.
