Unit 1 – Online World
Communication: We often chat in social media, for example Discord. Discord is often used by gamers
because you can play games while chatting as well, either in a call or in a voice channel.
Commerce: this is also known as e-shopping. Amazon and eBay are the top ones to go to for online
shopping. You can sell whatever on eBay and on Amazon you can buy what you desperately need if
you have Prime. In eligible cities you can get same day delivery but nationwide it’s one-day delivery.
Government: our government website’s gov.uk. Not many people go on it but it is there if you need
to calculate tax, find out what the minimum wage is, find out what apprenticeships they’re doing
and benefits.
Netiquette: network version of etiquette. Basically it’s manners and how you present yourself online,
its important nowadays because now there’s the report system and stuff like that.
Unit 1 – Online World
Profile: it’s who you are online, you can customise your profile picture and cover photo, add in
contact information about yourself and what you do.
Avatar: it can be you or anyone else in particular like your favourite character in social media, which
potentially hides your identity and replaces who you are online.
Network of friends: you can reach out to friends online, it can be the ones you met on the internet
or in real life.
Online community: it’s where everyone comes together and talk about what’s going on with
whatever it is they’re a community of.
Virtual World: everyone can come together online in a virtual world, think of it as you’re playing a
game and you’re in a real-life looking world. For example, Call of Duty.
Chat: it’s where you can chat to people, for example Discord and Instagram.
Chatroom: it’s how you can chat to people online. There are specific rooms just for chatting. This is
often in discord.
