History of Ilaya Elementary School

Ilaya Elementary School…soaring high complete elementary school at J.M. Catolos St.
Barangay Tandang Kutyo, Tanay, Rizal.

Through available records and information gathered, the present school site was
acquired through donation and purchase on July, 1938 by the Tanay Municipal Government
under the leadership of the late Mayor Simeon R. Bendaňa. Iet has a land area of 4, 350 sq.m.
and mostly composed of ricefields.

In June 1938 Mr. Monico Mateo, the school supervisor of Tanay District, proposed a
Grade I class with Mrs. Juliana Basos as the teacher. The municipal government of Tanay
handed aid and rented a building at the corner of Austria and A. Flores now Yujuico Street.

Due to growing population, a two-room building was constructed in 1939 at the present
school site. Assigned teachers were Ms. Patricia Yujuico for Grade II and Mr. Pedro Matignas for
Grade III. The Grade I class still occupied the rented building at Austria Street until the outbreak
of world war II in 1941.

The school stopped its operation for more than three years during the war period. It was
reopened and reconstructed in April 1945. It also opened its door to Grade I class, Mrs. Isabel
G. Guerrero as the teacher. In the school year 1951-1952, Ilaya Barrio School became a
complete primary school upon the completion of an additional two classrooms. In July 17, 1959
through the provincial fund, the main building was constructed followed by more
infrastructures. School year 1962-1963, Ilaya Elementary School yielded its first crop of
graduates of 25 boys and 19 girls with a total of 44 pupils. Miss Adelina R. Vista was the
teacher-adviser of the class.

The year 2000 marked the beginning of a distinct phase in the development of school
facilities, construction of Ynares Buildings and Congressional buildings showed school progress
and improvement.

From the time the school was established, many have given their hearts and precious
time to serve and render their services for the welfare of Ilayans. School heads assigned share
their knowledge and skills not only to the teachers but to the school as a whole. Their
