The different intentions in ‘The Rabbit Proof Fence’

IntroThroughout the course of the movie, many unique

intentions were presented to us. Good or bad, most of the
events in the story were driven by the morality of many
individuals.
Par 1 The aims of A.O Neville are perhaps the most

interesting in this movie, not only because of the

unintended consequences that they caused, but also
because he really was trying to do what he felt was the
right thing. In the movie, he states, “Hundreds of half-
caste children have been gathered up and brought here to
be given the benefit of everything our culture has to offer.
For if we are to fit and train such children for the future,
they cannot be left as they are. And, in spite of himself,
the native must be helped.” From this, we can get a clear
understanding of his morals. A.O Neville wishes to give
the half-caste children the so-called ‘Benefit’ of the
European culture, as he believes that otherwise, the
children will not be able to survive.

On the other hand, the 3 girls knew that his intentions,

while justifiable and righteous, were also extremely

mislead. As the 3 girls were perfectly happy with their old
life and wanted to escape the Moore River Settlement so
that they could go back to their home.
