CAMBODIA

1. PINPEAT – THE ORCHESTIA CONSIST APPROXIMATELY


FOVE OR SIX INSTRUMENT MAINLY PERCUSSION.

MEANING - musical instruments played by striking with


the hand or with a handheld or pedal-operated stick or
beater, or by shaking, including drums, cymbals,
xylophones, gongs, bells, and rattles.

2. SKOR THORN – 2 BIG DRUMS

MEANING - The Skor thom are Cambodian 2-headed


barrel drums played with a pair of wooden drumsticks.
They typically have skin heads made from oxen, cows
or buffalos, and are played in pairs.

3. SAMPHOR – DOUBLE HEADED DRUM

MEANING - The samphor is a small 2-headed barrel


drum indigenous to Cambodia.

4. ONEAT – XYLOPHONES

MEANING - CAMBODIAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS


ONEAT is a xylophone used in the Khmer classical
music of Cambodia.
5. KONUONG – GONG CIRCLES

MEANING - The gongs are ordinarily placed in order of


pitch, with the boss upward on cords held in a low
wooden frame. The frames can be rectangular or latter
circular and may have one or two rows of gongs.

6. CHING – FINGER CYMBAL

MEANING - a percussion instrument consisting of a pair


of tiny cymbals that attach to a thumb and finger of each
hand and are struck together especially in belly dancing.

MYANMAR
1. HSAINGWAI – IS MAID UP MAINLY OF DIFFERENT
GONGS AND DRUMS

MEANING - a traditional Burmese musical ensemble


consisting largely of drums and gongs.

2. HNE – A DOUBLE REED PIPE

MEANING - The hne is a conical shawm of double reed used


in the music of Myanmar.
3. MOVING HSAI – LARGER BRONZE GONGS IN RECTANGULAR
FRAME.

MEANING - Maung hsaing- a gong chime made of larger


bronze gongs in a rectangular frame.

4. PATWAING – 21 DRUMS IN A CIRCLE

MEANING - The pat waing or pat wang is a drum circle


instrument used in the Burmese folk musical ensemble.

5. KYI WAING – SMALL BRONZE GONGS IN CIRCULAR


FRAME

MEANING - The kyi waing is a high-pitched set of bronze


gongs played with mallets and set in a gilded wooden
circular frame similar to, but lower than that of the patt
waing.

6. SINGWA – BELL AND CLAPPERS

MEANING - The strike may be made by an


internal "clapper" or "uvula", an external
hammer, or—in small bells—by a small
loose sphere enclosed within the body of
the bell (jingle bell).
7. SAVING GAWK – B STRING ANGULAR AND SOFT SOUND

MEANING - The saung, is an arched harp used in traditional


Burmese music. The saung is regarded as a national musical
instrument of Burma. The saung is unique in that it is a very
ancient harp tradition and is said to be the only surviving
harp in Asia.

MALAYSIA
1. GAME LAN – IT CONTAINS A VARIETY OF A INSTRUMENTS

MEANING - Gamelan, the term for a traditional musical


ensemble in Indonesia, typically refers to a percussion
orchestra composed predominantly of tuned gongs of
various types and metal-keyed instruments. The ensemble
is conducted by a drummer, and often includes voice,
bamboo flute, xylophone, and stringed instruments.

2. BONANG – IT IS A COLLECTION
OF SMALL GONGS PLACED
HORIZONTALY ONTO STRINGS
FRAME

MEANING - The bonang is an Indonesian musical instrument used in the Javanese gamelan. It is a
collection of small gongs (sometimes called "kettles" or "pots") placed horizontally onto strings in a
wooden frame (rancak), either one or two rows wide.

MEANING - A gender is a type of metallophone used in


Balinese and Javanese gamelan music. It consists of 10
to 14 tuned metal bars suspended over a tuned
resonator of bamboo or metal, which are tapped with
a mallet made of wooden disks (Bali) or a padded
wooden disk (Java).

4. GONG – CIRCULAR METAL DISE WHICH IS HIT WITH A


MALLET.

MEANING - A gong is a percussion instrument


originating in East Asia and Southeast Asia. Gongs are a
flat, circular metal disc that is typically struck with a
mallet. They can be small or large in size, and tuned or
can require tuning. One of Javanese and Balinese style
gong for gamelan ensamble, hanging in an ornate
frame.

5. SLENTHEM – SET OF BRONZE KEYS

MEANING - The slenthem is an Indonesian


metallophone which makes up part of a Javanese
gamelan orchestra. The slenthem is part of the gender
family. It consists of a set of bronze keys comprising a
single octave: there are six keys when playing the
slendro scale and seven when playing the pelog.

6. KENONG – KING OF GONG

MEANING - The Kenong is a musical instrument of


Indonesia used in the gamelan. It is a kind of gong
and is placed on its side. It has the same length
and width. Thus, it is similar to the bonang,
kempyang, and ketuk, which are also cradled gongs. Kenongs are generally much larger than the
aforementioned instruments.

7. SARON – IT NORMALLY HAS SEVEN BRONZE BAR PLACED ON TOP OF A RESONATING FRAME

MEANING - The saron is a musical


instrument of Indonesia, which is used in
the gamelan. It normally has seven bronze
bars placed on top of a resonating frame. It
is usually about 20 cm high, and is played
on the floor by a seated performer.

THAILAND
1. RANT –21 WOODEN BARS SUSPENDED BY CORDS
OVER A BEAT

MEANING - The ranat is a Thai traditional


xylophone that consists of 21 or 22 wooden bars
suspended by cords over a boat-shaped resonator.
It is typically made from rosewood or bamboo and
is played with mallets. This traditional percussion
instrument is often used in the traditional thai
music ensembles known as “piphat”.
2. THONG WONG LEK – GONG CIRCLES 18 , TURNED BASSED GONG

MEANING - The khong wong lek is a gong circle used in Thai classical music. It has 18 tuned
bossed gongs, and is smaller and higher in pitch than the khong wong yai.

3. THAPON BAREL – SHAPE WITH 2 HEADS

MEANING - The taphon is a traditional drum of


Thailand. It is barrel-shaped with two heads, and
is played by the hands and fingers of both hands,
much like the more popular congas.

4. CHING – SMALL BAW SHAPED FINGER CYMBAL

MEANING - Ching are finger cymbals played in


Cambodian and Thai theater and dance
ensembles.

5. THON – small goblet drum

MEANING - The Thon are hand drums played in Thai


classical music. Thon, a goblet drum with a ceramic or
wooden body. It is used usually in the khruang sai
ensemble.
6. SOW CHANG – 2 STRINGED INSTRUMENT

MEANING - The saw duang is a two-stringed instrument used


in traditional Thai music. The sound is produced by the bow
made from horsetail hair which goes between the strings
made from silk. The bow has to be tilted to switch from one
string to another.
