Philippines' Duterte threatens

martial law-like virus crackdown

President Duterte has repeatedly threatened to impose military
rule in the Philippines where the mere words evoke the worst
rights abuses of the Ferdinand Marcos dictatorship.

TRANSLATION:

Our president, Rodrigo Duterte, has threatened the Filipino people with martial
law if they continue to disregard a virus lockdown on the nation's capital. Also, the
President spoke after authorities presented a report about an increase in the number
of cars on Manila's roads, which were about to be well almost deserted following a
month-long lockdown. In a late-night television speech on Thursday, he stated that he
is only asking for a simple yet tiny discipline, and that if none of them cooperate, the
police and military will take over. He also stated that, similar to martial law, the
military will enforce social distancing and night curfews.
The president continues to threaten statewide military rule in the Philippines,
where the mere utterance of the phrase conjures up images of Ferdinand Marcos'
dictatorship's worst human rights crimes. Furthermore, he established martial law in
Mindanao, which can also be a fantastic strategy to regain control of the siege that
occurred on the city of Marawi. As the number of reported cases of the new
coronavirus increased in March, Duterte declared a quarantine of the main northern
island of Luzon, which comprises the capital's 12 million people. Now that there has
been a new recorded case of coronavirus, which has been on the rise in the month of
March, the president has declared a quarantine on the main northern island of Luzon,
which involves 12 million people.

However, only front-liners, essential employees, and medical professionals are

permitted to leave their premises to purchase food, medications, or anything else, yet
there are still a lot of individuals who are stubborn, and a lot of people who disobey
the regulations. Also, there are still a lot of laborers who have no choice but to break
the rules in order to survive; they need to work even though it's still dangerous, but
there are also a lot of police reports about breaking up social events like boxing
matches. It has been established that police officers have warned or detained a large
number of persons who have been caught remaining outside their homes without a
convincing and valid reason. So, this is the status of the Philippines right now, and
the viruses are still spreading, and there are still a lot of people breaking the rules,
and the rest is history.

What changes did you make to adjust the newspaper article from written
to oral language?

I only did simple revision, paraphrasing, and adding my own words and thoughts that
is still have relevance to the topic/ context. I didn’t add something that doesn’t have
any relation to it or in the article. In addition, I choose this article because it relates to
the current situation in our country.
