physiological systems.

Learning Outcomes:

As part of the learning objectives of this course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the chemical level of human organization.
2. Recognize the various cellular structures found across human organ systems.
3. Explain the major physiological processes involved in various human organ systems.
4. Summarize the essential homeostatic changes that the human body exhibits in response to physical activity.
Identify major anatomical structures of the skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, and respiratory
5.

Students are responsible for ensuring the access to internet in order to learn the lecture and lab materials delivered via
video lectures and complete the online quizzes.

Note: Students are responsible for completing the coursework and checking for announcements given online and/or in-

on Brightspace.

Students have one week to work on each quiz intermittently. Students can open and close the quiz as many times as
needed but must submit the quiz before the deadline.

All the submissions of each quiz will be graded within 24 to 48 hours after the submission deadline by the instructor. The
scores and feedback will be posted on Brightspace.

The quizzes are designed closely based on the lab materials. Students should be able to complete the quizzes by
reviewing the lab slides and watching the lab lecture videos.

5. Missed Examinations:
Students must contact the instructor as soon as possible if they are not able to attend an exam. Legitimate reasons and
valid documents (i.e. medical notes issued by a local physician covering the absence from the exam and school time)
must be provided in order to reschedule the makeup exam. Students are responsible for communicating with the
instructor and completing the rescheduled exam as soon as possible.

The lecture and lab midterms: The rescheduled exam must be completed within one week after the formal exam time
unless further medical notes are provided. The makeup exam of the lab midterm II must be completed before the final
exam.

Students may be required to provide the approval of the Deferred Standing issued by the Registrar and Enrolment
Services (RES) of the College in order to reschedule the final exam.

No rescheduling of lab homework quizzes will be offered.

Format of the rescheduled exam: the rescheduled exam may be in an alternative version that is different from the
version for the class.

The instructor has the authority to deny re-scheduling of missed examinations if a valid medical document issued by a
local physician is not provided or students show irresponsible and/or academic misconduct during the process of
rescheduling the exam.

6. Grades:
Marks on assignments and exams are based on merit and the quality of a student’s academic work and are non-
negotiable. Personal circumstances are not a factor in determining a mark or final course overall grade.

Do not approach your instructor at any time to negotiate a mark or final grade, based on personal reasons.

If personal circumstances are affecting your ability to satisfactorily complete your academic work, please seek help early
from support services on campus. Information about services is available on line at https://langara.ca/student-
services/index.html.

International students can contact the International Education Office (https://langara.ca/international-

education/about-us/contact-ie.html).

7. Plagiarism/Cheating:
Plagiarism is the representation of another person’s ideas or words as being one’s own. Self-plagiarism is the use of one’s
own work for more than one assignment. Neither plagiarism nor self-plagiarism are acceptable in assignments
submitted to the Kinesiology Department and may result in serious penalties. Other forms of cheating will also result in
serious penalties.

8. Special Accommodations:
Students, whose attendance or performance may be severely affected by medical, emotional, and/or other disabilities,
should consult with the instructor early in the term to discuss any special accommodations that might be needed in order
to complete course requirements. Supportive documentation must be submitted to the Accessibility Services (formerly
Disability Services), and where appropriate, the instructor.
