TORN CHAIN MODEL OF COMMUNICATION

The Torn Chain Model of communication is a communication theory that describes

the way messages are conveyed and interpreted through a chain of individuals. This model

highlights the fact that messages can be distorted or changed as they pass through different

people, and that miscommunication can occur as a result.

The model is based on the idea that communication involves a sender who creates a

message, a receiver who interprets the message, and a channel through which the message

is transmitted. In the Torn Chain Model, the message is transmitted through a chain of

individuals, with each person in the chain acting as both a sender and a receiver.

The model suggests that as the message passes through each person in the chain, it

is subject to interpretation and can be changed or distorted in various ways. Factors that

can impact the accuracy of the message include differences in language, culture, and

perspective, as well as personal biases or misunderstandings.

The Torn Chain Model highlights the importance of effective communication in

ensuring that messages are accurately conveyed from the sender to the receiver. It

emphasizes the need for clear and concise messaging, as well as the importance of actively

listening and seeking to understand the perspectives of others. The model also recognizes

that miscommunication can occur even when efforts are made to communicate effectively,

and that ongoing efforts are needed to ensure that messages are accurately understood and

interpreted.
