a certain point in time.

Which is more functional? Explain.

Between the two, I think the most functional is the painting. As a person, you are more likely to
make paintings compared to statues. The idea is more limited compared to painting. Painting
promotes self-esteem and motivates people to improve their skills. Painting also creates a relaxed,
open environment in which artists may freely express themselves. The satisfaction that comes from
improving and increasing one's artistic abilities gives one a sense of accomplishment. Painting
represents fine art which serves utilitarian purposes.

V. Assessment
Answer the following questions based on your own understanding/ interpretation of the lesson you
learned. 5 points each.
1. Do Arts always have functions? Why? Provide your own example.
Yes, because I believe art is very diverse and whether a form of it was made, it has its use
and identity. The purpose of art is typically determined by how the person watching it
perceives it. For example, as a person, social functions of art is very persuading to us. We
are easily captivated by the things we might need. And, since we are such a diverse
species, any work of art, any object, event, or occurrence out there, might have as many
interpretations as the individuals who perceive it.

2. If an artwork has no function is it still considered as art?

Art will always be an art if there’s an appreciation or gratitude in some way. It started
with an art it will always end up as an art. For example, you made something like art that’s
unexpected but that thing doesn’t seem helpful or beneficial, it will still be considered as
an art because you exerted your thoughts and emotions in a sitting, your appreciation
towards it turns out to be the function of life in you living.

3. Why perception of beauty is subjective? Support your answer by providing your own example.
Perception of beauty may be subjective or relative. With the question, I will definitely
agree more on beauty being subjective. A totally subjective account of beauty
introduces a problem, because the concept of beauty is rendered meaningless if

everything is only a question of taste or personal opinion. Just like what David Hume said,
he argued that beauty does not lie in “things” but is entirely subjective, a matter of
feelings and emotion. Beauty is in the mind of the person beholding the object, and what
is beautiful to one observer may not be so to another. An art doesn’t lie on the outer or
the physical being of it. It has a deeper meaning and understanding relating to a certain
situation of thought.

4. What kind of artwork you are capable of doing that can showcase your emotions?
The best kind of art wherein you can express your emotion is through a painting, poem
or a song. Not to brag but as for myself, I am more comfortable in crafts and paintings
when it comes to expressing my thoughts. Painting is held to reflect the inner state of my
well-being. They spark vital debates and stimulate new ideas. Paintings can serve as a
comfort zone for people to think by its color grading and hues, you can see if a certain
emotion is dull, selfless or love.

5. If there is an artwork that changed your perspective in life, what is it and how it inspired you?

Frida Kahlo is one of the most significant

painters for me. She’s an artist who’s
commonly known for her self portraits.
She embodies genuine self-expression
and genuine self-love. Her work,
passion, and life narrative continue to
have an impact to this day. One of her
artworks that really changed my
perspective is her The Dream (The Bed),
1940. “I don’t really know if my paintings
are surreal or not, but I do know that
they represent the frankest expression
of myself.” In this painting, Dream of The

interception of death. Frida said it's just an amusing reminder of people's mortality. It
inspires me because When people contribute so much courage to the world, the world
has no choice but to murder them in order to break them, so it kills them. The world breaks
everyone, yet many people become strong in the damaged spots. Those who refuse to
breach it, however, will die. It indiscriminately destroys the extremely good, the very
gentle, and the very brave. If you are none of them, you may be certain that it will kill
you as well, but there will be no particular urgency."
