Quarter 1 – Module 3: I, You and We: Respecting Similarities and Differences
Copy the table on a clean sheet of paper. Think of five significant people around you (family,
friends, etc.) who made a positive impact in your life in spite of having different views,
interest, culture or values. Then, share ways on showing respect amidst diversity that
strengthen your relationship. An example is provided below to serve as your guide.

I felt a little sad because I remembered the time my grandpa died and the times where we
could still go outside. I also felt happy remembering that there are people who care for me.
Recognizing our similarities and differences from other people will help us identify who we
are and later on appreciate the wholeness of our being. Our individuality is an integral factor
for us to establish ourselves, and to avoid comparing ourselves to others. I think this doesn’t
matter because people should just set aside their differences and accept one another.
I can do this by accepting religious beliefs of my friends. I can also stop people from
discriminating one another by sharing information that it is wrong.
On a clean sheet of paper, make at least 3-5 paragraph essay guided by the following
questions:
1. How do you practice respect to people who are very different from you?
2. When was the last time you struggled to respect other people? Cite your personal
experience.
Everyday I try to not offend anyone by giving respect. First, I listen to their whole
message so I can understand what they want to say. Then I analyze what to say so when I
speak it will not seem like that I am discriminating or judging them. In small ways, I always
aim to be polite, kind, thankful and mindful in my conversations.
There was a time when I struggled to respect someone. Even though he was older
than me, I shouted at him because he did not want to understand the context of what I was
trying to say. I was still wrong for doing this because I should have told him nicely. If people
don’t respect me, I am fine with it. I will still respect them and try my best to avoid conflict.
