Direction: Explain your understanding of the Case In Point: Per Capita Real GDP and
Olympic Medal Counts; and relating the case with the present situation of our own
Philippine Athletes. Case in Point: Per Capita Real GDP and Olympic Medal Counts

Based on my understanding, Medal Counts is that the Olympics should provide an

opportunity for the outstanding athletes in the world. It explains that in order to compete with

each other face to face on the basis of natural talent and hard work, there must be opportunity in

Olympics that will provide all the talented athletes. It was specified according to Johnson and

Ali, "High productive capacity or income per person displays an ability to pay the costs

necessary to send athletes to the Games." It explains that it is related for atheles in problem

example, in a swimmer that had never practiced in an Olympic sized pool and a runner that had

worn the same running shoes for four years. However, real GDP remains our best single measure

of economic performance. It is used not only to indicate how any one economy is performing

over time but also to compare the economic performance of different countries. Generally, the

good news is that as the per capita real GDP in some relatively poor countries has increased, the

improved living standards had to increase Olympic medal counts. This case is related with the

present situation in our own Philippine Athletes in a way that our country unavailability of

different facilities needed. Olympics is every nations pride. In this case point, one of the possible

evaluations of achieving well known places in the Olympics in each country is achieving the

possibility of the events by the GDP of the country. GDP is the measure for a country's well-

being. Despite all of that, Filipino athletes are one of the most talented athletes in the world.
They represent the country well and won many medals in the past years. It is true that Olympics

should provide an opportunity for the finest athletes in the world.

The Philippines is not well known in the Olympic Games until the 2020 Summer

Olympic Games when we take home the gold medal for Women 's 55 kg. Weightlifting through

Ms. Hidilyn Diaz . The 2020 Summer Olympic Games was delayed by a year because of the

COVID - 19 Pandemic which is why it took. For many years Philippines has not recorded

success in terms of development in these sports like Olympics. The factors leading to that are

policies in sports, corrupt program , not getting much support in terms of financial aiding and

many indirect factors such as National Sports Association leadership, Government, etc.

Philippines barely have won medals since their first participation in Olympics in the year 1924.It

is truly said, a GDP of a nations influences the Medal count in the elite sports game such as

Olympics.
