Midterm Assessment

1. Give 3-5 examples of government programs or policies that you think are

effective in addressing inequality and alleviating poverty of families in our

country. Explain your answer.

First is the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Pantawid Pamilya is a

conditional cash transfer program that provides cash grants to poor households

with children 0‐14 years old and pregnant mothers, provided that they comply

with the conditions set by the program. Also, this program is a social assistance

program that provides conditional cash assistance to the poor families to

reduce their immediate needs and a social development program that aims to

break the intergenerational poverty cycle through investments in human

capital. The 4Ps also helps the Philippine government fulfill its commitment to the

people clearly in remove extreme poverty and hunger, in achieving universal

primary education, in promoting gender equality, in reducing child mortality,

and in improving maternal health care.

Second is KALAHI-CIDSS (Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive

and Integrated Delivery of Social Services,The Kapit‐Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan ‐

Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services or Kalahi‐ CIDSS is a

poverty relief initiative of the DSWD that uses a community development


approach. The said program provides resources to poor rural municipalities for

public goods investment and promotes people’s participation in governance. It

allow the group by giving them a chance to identify their problem, recommend

solutions and implement such. It is expected that the poorest communities will

be allowed, local governance will be improved, poverty will be slow, and

transparency will be a way of life.

Lastly is Cooperative Pabahay Program, Cooperative Pabahay Program is

an alternative housing approach that demand partnership undertaking with

financially and organizationally stable cooperatives to address the housing

problems of its members primarily the homeless low income earners through its

own cooperative efforts in planning and direct production of affordable,

decent and enough housing units. Filipino is very much concerned with the

homeless families, particularly those who are forced to live in disaster prone

informal settlements.
