Dear Ma’am,

First of all, I’m very sorry if the way I address this letter to you is not proper, because I don’t
think I can leave my parent for now, Ma’am. With due regards, it really saddens me to notify
you that I, Lindra Deviana, one of the students from batch 2017 of the English and Education
Study Program at FKIP UNTAN Pontianak have decided to resign from my study today
onwards. Making such a decision for me has not been easy at all.

After putting it through lots of careful and thorough considerations, this is what my decision
is. This letter may get a bit personal but I hope you wouldn’t mind, Ma’am. As I have ever
informed you, I have been struggling with my mitral valve disease since born and was
diagnosed with hyperthyroidism too since last year. To be honest, surviving through all the
symptoms altogether was beyond overwhelming to me. But, things happened. My mother
fell sick in October 2022 and got worse around a month after. She’ll need extended treatment
and recovery for her illness, and she’ll need me to stay by her side. Moreover, my father has
not been in his prime health condition too since then. Thus, I also have to help take care of
the business my parents run. I can’t explain everything in this letter. But, things have been
very complicated up to the stage where I feel like my limit of capacity is reached and it can’t
be pushed any further. Therefore, I have decided to end my study journey here. I just hope
that my decision can be well-accepted by you.

Despite all the unpleasant things that happened, I’m still very thankful that God has provided
me the opportunity given to me to have experienced a few years of study in FKIP UNTAN.
I’m also thankful for all the respected lecturers of the English Education study program who
have worked very hard for all the students’ betterment. A special thanks to you too, Ma’am,
for your persistence, and compassion, for all the knowledge you’ve shared with us all, and for
everything. Last but not least, please help me to send my regards and gratitude to Mr. Urai
for his guidance and supervision all this time.

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused. Anyway, I prepared a little
something for you and Mr. Urai to keep, Ma’am. There’s a USB flash drive inside each of the
wooden boxes with your names carved on them. Also, inside the two pouches that I sent
along are some packed teabags with different flavors that can be brewed and shared with
other lecturers in the office. It’s almost nothing from me, but I hope those can be useful and
make up your day a little bit. I’m wishing you and everyone in the Prodi an endless pattern of
blessings with good health and prosperity. I hope we’ll be able to see each other again
someday in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Lindra Deviana
