    Measures of Location: Mean

    • Population mean:

    • Excel function: =AVERAGE(data range)

    • Mean valid for interval/ratio variables and often questionable for ordinal variables

    Example 1: Computing Mean height


    Height data: raw data 6

    • Using the formula:


    =SUM(B2:B13)/COUNT(B2:B13)
    Mean = 821.01230/12
    = 68.41769

    Using Excel AVERAGE Function


    =AVERAGE(B2:B13)
    =69.41769
