The celebrity effect is

the ability of famous people to influence others:

- the influence they bring can be both negative and positive in each specific situation.
- ADVANTAGE
+Celebrities can be Good Role Models
++Famous people are often admired by their fans. Not only can they influence the lives of their
fans, but they’re always good role models to look up to. Sometimes celebrities can even be better
role models than parents or teachers because they’re constantly being branded.
They’re often in the public eye, which makes them more accessible, and they can use their
fame to draw attention to issues or causes they believe in. A celebrity can also get involved in
charities and fundraisers to help people who need help. Many celebrities work hard for their
careers and make a lot of money because they’ve talents many people like to see on TV or in
movies. And that inspired a lot of people.

Ex: Ronaldo and Andrew Tate are 2 successful millionaires in each industry. They inspire and
change a lot of people to become better versions of themselves.

++ TREND AND MARKETING

Having a famous person advertise a product can be a powerful tool for marketing. Celebrities
promote everything from products to services and even social causes. Celebrities can shine a
bright spotlight on all types of businesses, and that's why they are sought out by a wide variety
of companies to advertise their products or services.

To give it a formal definition, celebrity branding is the use of famous people to generate buzz
around a product or service. Celebrity branding involves engagement from celebrities with the
product or service. These days, that often translates to generating buzz or engagement with
their social networks.

One example of celebrity branding is having a product promoted on social media by a

celebrity_._ Celebrities have substantial social networks and people are always interested in
the trends and products that celebrities endorse. Celebrity branding on social media has the
potential to reach more people than other traditional advertising methods.

Ex: Johny Depp marketing for Dior after his divorce, which helps Dior sell an enormous
amount of product

++ economic and politics

+Celebrity influence in politics, also referred to as "celebrity politics," or "political star

power," is the act of a prominent person using their fame as a platform to influence others on
political issues or ideology. According to Anthony Elliott, celebrity is a central structuring point
in self and social identification, per-forming as it does an increasingly important role in self-
framings, self-imaginings, self-revisions and self-reflection. The influential people considered
celebrities can be anyone with a major following such as professional athletes, actors/actresses,
television personalities, or musicians. Celebrities have two kinds of specific power; the abilities
to shed light on issues and persuade audiences. Social media is one of the most common areas
for celebrities to discuss specific issues or current events that are being politicized; the
individuals may also speak out in public forums such as television talk shows, events, or during
their own widely attended performances. In the United States, most celebrities tend to
hold liberal political beliefs, for reasons that are debated by social psychologists.

Ex: Celebrities such as movie stars, professional athletes, musicians, and reality television stars
have campaigned for and against political parties, candidates, and on political issues. Examples
include Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney endorsing Barack Obama's presidential campaign in
2008 and a song written by American musician Hank Williams Jr. endorsing Senator John
McCain's campaign in the same election

+Celebrity can affect the stock and bear market. The best example is Elon musk:

Bitcoin’s value jumped more than 20% to $38,566 on Friday after Elon Musk, the world’s
richest person, changed his personal Twitter bio to #bitcoin, fueling speculation that he had
bought more of the cryptocurrency.

One of his tweets appeared to help GameStop’s valuation to skyrocket to more than $10 billion
in after-hours trading and resulted in some amateur trading apps to pause trading. But some
people stand to lose a lot of money if GameStop’s share price comes crashing down.

- DISADVENTAGE

+Celebrities are responsible for dealing with their power, but very often, they misuse that power
to send out messages that hurt the feelings of many people. They are very popular and they
could choose to help the world and make a difference. They have an option to
choose to be a good role model for people of all ages. Unfortunately, many
celebrities decide to do the exact opposite, and let themselves be displayed as fake
and bad role models.

For example, G-Eazy—an American rapper who is famous among the youth for his lyrics about
sex, drugs, and money, as well as love, grief, and the pressures of being celebrities—had been
arrested recently for cocaine possession and attempted assault but was released on bail and able
to continue touring

+ bad influence on today’s teens

Celebrities set an unrealistic standard for both girls and guys. From the pounds of makeup they
wear, to their bodies and the way they flaunt them, teenagers envy celebrities in every way.
“Why can’t I be as pretty as this celebrity,” or “I wish I was as skinny as this celebrity,” are
things I hear everyday. Moreover, women’s perceptions of their body size and the perceived
body size of their favorite celebrity were related to disordered eating measures. Sociocultural
pressure from celebrities on social media also persuades men to have more muscular and toned
bodies leading to body dissatisfaction and disordered eating attitudes among them as well. The
pressure to look good is worse now than ever before.

In reality television shows, celebrities are displayed in a negative manner, often shown
doing drugs, partying, fighting, and engaging in sexual activities. Celebrities like Snooki,
Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Justin Bieber are horrible role models as they portray
reckless behaviours and disregard for common respect. Teenagers who are exposed to
this believe that’s the proper way to act and start taking part in those activities themselves.
They also start to form false ideals. In fact, some teens are more likely to listen to the
words of their favorite celebrities than their own parents.
