At the end of the discussion, the students shall be able to:

1. Determine what precise type of textual evidence
does the situational statements infer;
2. Reflect the importance of fairness, openness,
critical mindset, and justice through a song; and
3. Prove the type of textual evidence the scenario
implies by elaborating its characteristics

b) Motivation (7 minutes)

The teacher plays a song entitled “Tatsulok” by Bamboo.

The students are encouraged to extract the message behind
the lyrics of the song. After listening, the guide questions
below will be used to assess students’ understanding of the
song, and to set the learning atmosphere for the new
lesson.

"Tatsulok" is a metaphor of greediness to power that

results to different faces of societal injustices. When
money rules, all evidence, no matter how solid and
reliable, is ignored. Thus, those poor and disadvantaged
members of our society have no opportunity to be heard
and to experience justice.

Processing Question:
1. What societal issue is presented in the song?
Social Injustice
2. What would happen to people's lives if they were given
a fair chance to be heard as victims of social injustice?
3. Would societal injustices still exist if everyone started
to be more empathetic, fair, and critical of the
evidences presented in front of them?
c) Activity (10 minutes)

ORDER IN THE COURT!

Directions/Mechanics:

Assume that you are an eye witness or a secondary

witness; given the evidences you hold, convince the
judge and the victim that your evidence is believable.

There will only be 1 case/claim. Each group is provided

with one unique evidence. They have to assess and
decide themselves whether the evidence assigned to
each of them is acceptable or not. After 5 minutes of
discussion, the judge who is the teacher will call the
session to order. Since each group member will play the
witness, there is a chance that they will all be called
upon to explain and elaborate and defend the evidence
assigned to them. The goal of each group is to convince
the judge and the victim that their evidence is valid
enough to support or refute/disprove the case. Each
group is given 5 minutes to conduct brainstorming.

Case: John Lloyd is accused of stealing his classmate’s

pen. Mae, the owner of the pen is presented with four
evidences but she finds it difficult to choose which one is
valid. Convince Mae that your evidence is valid and
substantial to prove that the accusation against John Lloyd
is true.

Group 1
Statistical
You have witnessed John Lloyd steal pen from his
classmates several times. In fact, he has stolen pen from his
classmates 15 times. Not only does he steal Mae’s ballpen
but also her eraser. You are certain that John Lloyd stole
16 pens in total throughout the last week.
Group 2
Anecdotal
Joeriz, a friend of yours from Section Bagras caught John
Lloyd stealing Philip’s pen as he walked past your room.
Speaking on Joeriz’s behalf, you are confident that Joeriz’s
testimony is strong enough to prove that John Lloyd is also
responsible for stealing Mae’s pen.
Group 3
Testimonial
John Lloyd once stole a pen from you, and you had direct
experience with it. You simply chose to ignore it at the
moment since you were in a hurry. However, after
knowing that another student in your class has been a
victim, you decide to come forward and say that you think
John Lloyd needs to be punished for his wrongdoing.

Group 4
Analogical
You think that regardless of the number of evidences put
out that will hold John Lloyd accountable, he would simply
refuse to acknowledge his wrongdoing. You contrast John
Lloyd with an alcoholic who can’t survive without
drinking for a day.

The witness/student that will be called per group are

required to defend and prove their evidence to be strong. If
he/she does not respond after 5 seconds, all members of the
group will receive no score.
d. Analysis (5 minutes)
Lower-level questions:
1. In connection to our lesson topic, what do you think
is the specific type of evidence assigned to you?
2. How do the 4 types of evidence differ from one
another?

Higher-level questions:
1. Among the four types of textual evidence, which
one is the strongest? How about the weakest? Why
do you say so?
2. As students and Filipino citizens, why knowing the
four types of textual evidence important to you?
e. Abstraction (8 minutes) – teacher’s added inputs
Types of Evidence
1. Statistical Evidence
It is known as the strongest type of evidence. It comes
in a form of number, percentage, or surveyed type of
data.
Example:
 75% of students in Ma-a National High School are
visual learners
 8 out 10 Davaeños are satisfied of the current
administration performance
 16 students of Grade 9 Sycamore fail the English
subject for the 3rd quarter

2. Testimonial Evidence
Use of celebrities is the core of this second type of
evidence. However, experts and authorities can also be
used to collect testimonial evidences.
Example:
 Heart Evangelista, a well-known actress and
fashion expert, recommends that Olay lotion is
good on our skin.
 The Wshington Post mentioned that Avengers: End
Game is packed with adventures one would surely
enjoy.

3. Anecdotal Evidence
This type of evidence is often considered as
untrustworthy and meaningless. When the speaker does
the storytelling, anecdotal evidence is used.

Example:
 After living for decades in Baranggay Ma-a, I can
honestly say that the people there are kind and
hospitable.
 The song Mirrorball by Taylor Swift is about those
people who seek validation from others based on
my interpretation of it.

4. Analogical Evidence
It is regarded as the weakest evidence. When
information about something is scarce and little is
known, analogical evidence is often used in formal
arguments to increase credibility of the proof. The text
draw conclusion based on comparison

Example:
 COVID-19 vaccines are dangerous risks to take.
Look at what happened to many children with
dengvaxia.
 If cigarette is to be banned because of the health
risk it may pose, medical drugs should be banned as
well because of its detrimental side effects.

Type of Description Characteristic

Evidence
1. Statistical Strongest type of Number,
evidence percentage,
survey data
2. Testimonial Claims made by Claims from
witness celebrities,
experts, and
authorities
3. Anecdotal Dismissed as storytelling
untrustworthy
and meaningless
4. Analogical Weakest Conclusion
evidence based on
comparisons

f. Application (10 minutes) – should have rubrics

instructed to write the letter that corresponds to the correct
type of evidence that the statements infer before each item.
½ crosswise.

IV. EVALUATION (15 minutes)

Analyzing Situation

Scenario:
The main performance task for the third quarter is a one-act play that requires
teamwork and collaboration. Sir Dhem advises his Grade 9 Sycamore students to watch
the criminal drama series "Money Heist" in order to learn the virtues of teamwork and
collaboration for themselves. He continues by saying that the show is full with lessons,
one of which is the value of working together to accomplish a goal.

What specific type of evidence does the above scenario infer or imply?
Elaborate your answer. ½ crosswise. Begin your sentence with the phrase

The scenario falls under (state the type of evidence) because_______________________.
