Read the following text.

Dear Dimas,

I have one male cat named Simba. I got him from my friend, Sandi, a couple months ago.
Simba spends most of his day by napping on the couch. He likes to be petted by me when
he is napping. Sometimes he goes outside to climb the wall fences or trees and takes a nap.
What a sluggish cat.

Simba is an adult cat. Now, he is about one and a half years old. His coat has two main
colors, black and white. He has black stripes on his upper face, body, and tail, while his neck
and four legs are white. He has a light pink nose.

Although Simba is a sluggish cat, he always eagerly runs to his bowl when I bring him some
food. He likes most food that I give him, especially fresh or cooked fish. I feed him twice or
three times every day.

Come over sometime. I‟ll introduce you to Simba.

Love,

Rina

My name is Jane and I am 17 years old now. Since I was a kid, I have always been
interested in cats. Every time I saw them, I felt they were the cutest animals on this
planet. Many people love dogs but not me.
One day, on my 7th birthday, my father brought me a white kitten. It was one of the
best days I have ever had. I fell in love with the kitten and I called him Coco. According to
my father, Coco was a Persian breed. He had clear white fur. His face was partly covered
by it. His nose looked tiny and cute, especially if he stared at me. He liked playing, so
many people in the house loved him. His favorite food was chicken breast.
Every day, I spent some time with him. Once a month, I brought him to the pet shop
for grooming with my father. Coco stayed with me for more than four years. My heart was
broken when Coco was sick because of heartworm disease. It was caused by the spread of
infectious mosquitoes. I asked my father to bring him to the veterinary, but it was too late.
I was sad when my father said I had to let Coco go. Coco was the last pet that I ever had.

Ruwatan Anak Gimbal

Children with dreadlocks are considered special in Dieng Plateau, Central Java. The
ritual of shaving off their dreadlocks is truly exceptional. It is performed to protect the
children from the influence of evil spirits. The precious moment is celebrated in a series of
ritual ceremonies known as the Ruwatan Anak Gimbal.
Dieng's dreadlock children are born with normal hair, but at a certain stage, their
hair amazingly turns into dreadlocks. The locals believe these kids are chosen by their
ancestors to accept these gifts. The dreadlocks may not be trimmed unless the children
themselves ask for it. Before this sacred ritual, the parents must grant the child's
requests. Some children ask for bicycles or dolls while some others ask for livestock, crops
and jewelries.
The ceremony commences with the procession of the dreadlock kids carried around
the village. They paraded on a Javanese traditional horse-drawn carriage and followed by
various traditional art processions. The kids will then be taken to Arjuna Temple where
the ritual will take place. After the ritual leader cut their hair, he took it to a lake to
submerged the hair as a symbol of returning to the ancestors.
Nowadays, the ceremony has been a part of an annual cultural festival. The festival
also presents art and cultural performances, and an exhibition of Dieng's products. This

its edible fruits. Guava trees are native to tropical America and are grown in tropical and
subtropical areas worldwide. Fresh guavas are rich in vitamins A, B, and C. They are
commonly eaten raw and may be sliced and served with sugar and cream as a dessert.
The common guava has quadrangular branchlets, oval to oblong leaves about 7.6 cm
in length, and four-petaled white flowers about 2.5 cm broad. The fruits are round to
pear-shaped and measure up to 7.6 cm in diameter. Their pulp contains many small hard
seeds. They are more abundant in wild forms than in cultivated varieties.
The fruit has a yellow skin and white, yellow, or pink flesh. The musky, at times
pungent, odor of the sweet pulp is not always appreciated. The fruit is the result of a
pollination process helped by wind.

Liquefaction is a phenomenon in which the strength and stiffness of soil is reduced

by earthquake shaking or other rapid loading. Liquefaction and related phenomena have
been responsible for tremendous amounts of damage in historical earthquakes around
the world.
Liquefaction occurs in saturated soils in which the space between individual particles
is completely filled with water. This water gives a pressure on the soil particles that
influences how tightly the particles themselves are pressed together. Prior to an
earthquake, the water pressure is relatively low. However, earthquake shaking can cause
the water pressure to increase to the point where the soil particles can readily move.
Earthquake shaking often triggers the increase in water pressure, but construction
related activities such as blasting can also cause an increase in water pressure. When
liquefaction occurs, the strength of the soil decreases and the ability of a soil deposit to
support foundations for buildings and bridges is reduced.

44. Which of the followings are closely related to liquefaction?

(1) It is completely harmless.
