Section 1: Review
As of April 2023 I have been on the course for 8 months, and I have already started to learn
new things and build my skillset in a variety of relevant areas.

So far on this course, we have had the opportunity to begin to develop our abilities in multiple
competencies that are relevant to the industry, and have been able to do this whilst working
alongside different practitioners who are already within the industry, allowing us lots of firsthand
insight into how to access your desired career and how to start down that pathway now. A great
example of how I have already begun to grow over this course is during our creation of our
Scratch pieces. I personally found the Scratch process highly invigorating and engaging, and I
felt like I got a lot out of it. I enjoyed the level of independence and agency that we as a group
had over our own work, whilst also being able to gain feedback from our directors, Krista and
Alex, when looking for an outside perspective and professional opinion on how to further
advance our piece. This meant that I felt supported to put my ideas out there and to allow myself
to be creative whilst thinking of new ways to present our piece, and because of this I realized
that I actually really enjoyed directing and creating theatre, not just acting in it, so I felt like that
project did really help me to build my confidence and grow as a theatre maker.

I have also had the chance to learn more specific skills and have been able to practice and work
at these, such as magic, clowning, pitching to a panel and scheduling for a production, all of
which I felt fed back positively into my overall knowledge as a performer and theatre maker. I
also knew this would advantage and help me in my next steps after the course and long-term
aspirations.

In the long term I aspire to become a performer in theatre, and I would especially like to work in
musical theatre. I have always had a passion for song and dance, and I look forward to studying
these things on this course in order to follow it as a career. However, as previously mentioned, I
am very creative and have found I also enjoy working as a director and creator behind the
scenes of a piece. One of the main things I enjoy about this course is being able to discover
what I enjoy within the industry and hone my skills in multiple areas.

Overall since the beginning of the course I feel like I have really grown in my confidence and
quality of work, as well as feeling like I am more prepared for the industry and have a greater
knowledge of how to get where I want to go. I am excited to see what this project and the rest of
the course will bring.

Section 2: Project Concept

For our Final Major Project we are producing and preforming “buckets” by Adam Bernard. Our
production of buckets will be split into 32 in part unrelated scenes, with each member of our cast playing
unnamed characters which sometimes reoccur. My vision for buckets is to convey an observation of
society and the way we as humans understand our lives, as Bernard’s script intended, through a
sensory-stimulating, interpretive and abstract ensemble piece that leaves our audience feeling like
they’ve just watched something unique and thought provoking.

Due to the stripped-back style of our script, when producing this play creativity and collaboration are the
key to overcoming the challenge. Because there are no set characters, stage directions or context in our
piece, it’s up to us to create ‘the world’ of the play, and so its important that we communicate as a group
in order to create a well-rounded piece that flows well despite the disjointed script. Our piece is an
ensemble piece, meaning that we want to use the whole cast often if we can, so one of the main aims is
to be able to create visually engaging moments as a large group. We will work on movement skills to
make this more achievable with our movement director.

In order to help us create this world of our piece, its important that we understand the context of the time
the script was written and why Bernard chose to write it. Our independent study is vital for us to
research our play and develop that understanding, helping us fill in the gaps. In my independent study I
intend to also try to interpret the visual/ sensory language of our play as I feel like that will help me in my
input to the scenes that I am in, so things like creating a playlist for the show I feel will be beneficial for
me as I believe that understanding the aesthetic of the show will help me understand the deeper
meaning behind the script, and therefore aid me in my artistic choices.

In order to achieve a high-quality performance within our time schedule, there are a few things that need
to be done, the most important probably being that each member of our cast takes responsibility for the
things they are accountable for. This includes learning lines and remembering props etc, so that no one
person is letting the team down. To be organized in this process I will bring my script and a notebook
into rehearsals to keep a track sheet of what I’m doing and when, as I feel like this will help me be
prepared and positively impact rehearsals running smoothly. There may also be points where some of
us will need to have somewhere at lunch or other spare times to rehearse, so we will need to know what
areas we have access to.

Overall I believe I have a concept of what our piece is starting to look like and I am beginning to foresee
how I want it to look when it is finalized. I also understand what steps I as an individual need to take to
work with my group to achieve our aims and ensure that my theory work is also at the highest quality.

Section 3: Evaluation
Evaluating and reflecting on my work is something that I am very focused on during this project, as it
will allow me clear insight into what I need to do to continue to progress throughout. I have multiple
ways of being able to track my growth through the course of the next few weeks, being both my action
plan and my weekly reflection videos. With my action plan I will use it to keep a record of the main
elements that we focused on that week, such as the scenes we looked at, how far we got with them and
what direction we took them in, and I will use this to support myself the week after and check it before
my next rehearsal and know what I need to bring in to be prepared. My videos will be less concise and
give a more general overview of a wider range of points, such as what was challenging and what
worked well, what skills we developed and how I am feeling about the process. This will be more
relevant at the end of the project when it comes to doing my final reflection. Whilst it has many benefits,
like stronger ideas and constant feedback, working as a group means that you will always be
collaborating with different people. Sometimes this interferes with your ability to get work done, either by
getting distracted or not being able to agree on ideas. Keeping these tracks means that this will cause
minimal interference with rehearsals.

Project Action Plan and Timetable

Week Date Week Activity / What you are intending to do - Resources / What you will need to do it -
Beginning including independent study including access to workshops

1st March We began by reading the script through Access to our buckets channel on
as a group and learning about the play Teams, my script, access to my website.
and its style. We did some
improvisational work around a couple of
scenes from the play and considered
how we could make these visually
appealing or engaging. We looked at
genre and style and places we could set
our play.

In my independent study I worked on my

first weekly Reflection Video.

First we discussed what we would do Team skills and my phone.

6th March with the play If we could do anything,
which got our minds working. We started
to look deeper into the skills that can be
applied to the script such as movement-
based skills and ensemble work. We
played around in groups with characters
that could be interesting and stage
spacing too.

I continued my independent study by

creating my second weekly reflection
video, and doing my interview with a
different generation.
We started with games like normal and My computer and script.
13th March our discussion of what we would do in
the play if we could create anything. After
this we looked at a different couple of
scenes and how we would convey them, I
worked with Veronica and Molly on
Terms and Conditions. We workshopped
the involvement of props in this.

In my independent study I did my

interview analysis and continued making
my videos.
This week we looked at other relevant My computer, production skills.
20nd March areas of our production aside form
acting. We looked into puppetry and how
we would create lifelike puppets with
costume. We continued to develop our
skillset and build understanding of the
play.
Begin to work with my script and My script
27th March learn my lines. Start to devise each
of my scenes around the overall
vision of the play and begin
development of my characters
around that. Ensure that I work with
my group on our decisions.
3rd April Get on top of any work that I have fallen My website, my script
behind on. Start to build my website and
attach all future work to this. Keep check on
our photos and download any that are good
for the website. Start to learn my lines and
consider how these would be communicated
by my characters.
9th April Indevidual Work: My website, my script.
Continue to look at work that needs to be
uploaded to my website, such as my
research posters, and work on my
playlist and analysis of that. Work on
making things presentable such as
neatening up my pages of the site and
embedding things into it.
17th April First week of intensive rehearsal: My script, access to a space where I can
learn my lines whilst rehearsals are
going on.
Monday: We started with a session
with Deeps to build our ensemble
scenes, including Being There which
was my scene and I knew my lines
well which was good. We went back
over Stan and made sure we
understood where we were going
during this time. This was our first
day in the theatre, so we went over
scenes we had previously covered to
make sure they worked on the Egg
stage. I kept record of my track sheet
and went over lines in my spare time.

Tuesday:
We went over what we did on
Monday with Scott and rehearsed my
lines in my spare time. We rehearsed
the first few scenes again with Scott
in the Roper Room in order to solidify
our understanding of our movements
in the first key scene. Throughout the
day, Scott worked with different
groups of people on their scenes, so
during this time I learnt my lines in
the Egg café. We started looking at
Terms and Conditions, and nobody
knew their lines too well so we kept
scripts on us. We had Deeps during
this time and choreographed the first
set of movements.

Wednesday: On Wednesday we
were back in the Egg with Deeps and
ran Terms and Conditions again. We
realized that we still didn’t know our
lines and this was a setback because
we struggled remembering the
movements. We went over more
scenes without props, so I had to
take a mental note of the set
changes I was a part of rather than
doing them.

Thursday: On Thursday we
continued to build the show and had
Deeps with us again. We got to work
on Not Working which was great
because we workshopped how to
physically come across like mice
onstage. We considered our stage
spacing, as well as our expression
and physicality.

Friday: On Friday we went over the

scenes that we had put together. We
looked at our ensemble scenes
again and by this point most people
had learnt their lines. We ran through
Not Working again, and I watched
some of the other scenes that I
wasn’t a part of.
24th April Monday: On the Monday we were My Script, My Track sheet,
back in the dance studio and began rehearsal space.
working through the transitions in our
piece and understanding of who
ends up in which wing. We did this
after Scott worked with small groups
in the morning so I went over my
lines for Terms and Conditions. We
then ran through scenes 1-10 and I
tried to memorise the order of this
part of the show.
Tuesday: On Tuesday we continued
to work through the show and started
to look at connecting our scenes
together. We looked at the wedding
scene and ran through the middle
section of the show (11-20). I tried to
memorise the running order of the
first half of the show. I also found out
that Terms and Conditions had been
cut.

Wednesday: On Wednesday we
continued to look at the order of the
show and worked on scenes 21-
33,and tried on our costumes. We
worked on the wedding scene and
looked at how we would do the
ending scene, where we were
singing and dancing. We then ran
these through so we could
understand which wing we needed to
be in.

Thursday: On Thursday our focus

was looking at any individual scenes
that needed patching up, and I
wasn’t needed the whole time. After
this we ran through the whole show
for the first time and had our pictures
taken.

Friday: On Friday we ironed out any

issues with scenes from before, for
me this involved changing ensemble
movement such as in Charity and
changing set movements. After this
we did a full run through and
presented it to Kris and Deb with full
sound in the Dance Studio.
