On board was Antonio Pigafetta, a young Italian aristocrat who took part in an

expedition three years ago and was an assistant to Ferdinand Magellan on his way to
the Maluku Islands. Pigafetta managed to survive with his diary-a note detailing the
discovery of the western route to the Maluku. And in the middle of new lands, new
people: on the other side of the Pacific, the fleet stumbled across the Mariana Islands
and about 300 miles west of the Philippines. Pigafetta`s diary was the basis for his
travel journal, "The First Voyage Around the World," published in 1525.

One of Pigafetta`s patrons, Francesco Kierikati, called the magazine "Sacred", and
Shakespeare himself seems to have been inspired by this work. Pigafetta sees the leaves
marvel at the Borneo trees, which appear to be running around after being dropped.
We marvel at the Philippine sea slugs. I grew up in the Mariana Islands and heard
about this golf.

When he arrived at the Mariana Islands at sea for about four months without new
supplies, he said, "The Admiral wanted to stop by a big island to get fresh food, but
the inhabitants of this island boarded a ship. Sailors did not understand that this was a
custom, property was common to the islanders, and visitors were expected to share
what they had. "When the crossbow shaft passed through the hips from side to side
and injured one of these people, they pulled around while looking at the shaft and
then surprised to remove it and died; chest. (27) Magellan called the archipelago Islas
de los Ladrones, an island of thieves.

This name will last for 300 years, long after the islands were incorporated into the
Spanish Empire. So I was surprised to see the sailors sympathize with Pigafetta`s text.
At that moment of surprise, they seem to understand that the islanders are vulnerable
to the unknown. From the Mariana Islands, the fleet has moved to the Philippines.

Through Pigafetta, I know that the silence of the world can be seen just before the
world changes completely. And then there`s Pigafetta, who was surprised by the
beautiful naked people with coconuts and bananas. Pigafetta`s roaming, cataloging and
recordings were caught up in the first tide of the new world. As I read, I hear my dad
explain his country and wonder how he moves up and down across the sea as a young
man on Luzon.
