Lesson Plan with Seamless Feature

Strategy: 7 E’s, Inquiry Based

Topic: Reproduction
Grade Level: 7

Differentiate asexual from sexual reproduction in terms of numbers of individuals

involved and similarities of offspring to parents. (S7LT-IIg-7)

Sub-tasks:

1. Compare and contrast asexual reproduction from sexual reproduction;

2. Differentiate the offspring that results from asexual reproduction and sexual
reproduction;
3. Identify the different types/processes of reproduction;

ELICIT: The teacher will introduce to the students a game which is called 4 pics 1
word. Students are given a hint for them to guess the pics as much as they can. With
the help of a letter bank given just below the 4 pics they are going to figure out the
pics in just 1 word.

ENGAGE: The teacher will have a picture analysis for the students to have an idea
on what the topic is all about. (Teacher will provide a sheet with the two pictures for
them to have a copy as soon as the teacher will show to them the guide questions.

Picture 2

BIG QUESTION:

1. Can you read the pictures?

2. What are the similarities of two pictures?
3. What are the differences?

(Students are task to complete the missing word from the given sentence with the
help of the letter bank.)

“If their is a new individual organism produced from their parents, a process called
_____________________ also exist.”

Correct Answer : REPRODUCTION

EXPLORE: Students are task to define REPRODUCTION. Emphasize to them that

there are two modes of reproduction the sexual and asexual. Present to them the list
of some organisms that undergo sexual, asexual and both mode of reproduction.

The teacher prepared a station; the READ IT station. Materials are prepared by the
teacher. Each group will work on the two stations. Activity Sheet and materials are
provided by the teachers.

Activity #1 Reading Station

What to do:

1. Scan Investigating Reproductive Strategies worksheet.

2. Read about your assigned organisms and complete the comparison table on the
Investigating Reproductive Strategies worksheet.
3. When youre done completing the comparison table you may post your work
around the room.
4. Walk around the room and read the comparison tables with the goal of creating a
list of general characteristics for organisms that reproduce sexually and one for
organisms that reproduce asexually.
5. As a class, compile lists of general characteristics for organisms that reproduce
sexually and asexually on the board.
6. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each mode of reproduction.

(check students work and correct misconception)

EXPLAIN:

Activity #2 Let’s Reveal the Unknown

What to do:
1. Observe each organism in the illustration and read the description carefully to
complete the table in your activity sheet.
2. In the third column identify the mode of reproduction used by each organism to
reproduce.
3. For the process/type of asexual/sexual reproduction, choose from the following
options: Fertilization, Fragmentation, Conjugation, Spore formation, Budding,
Vegetative propagation, and Pollination.
4. In the last column, write identical if the offspring is similar to its parent and not
identical if it is not similar.

Guide Questions:

1. Based on the data gathered from the table above, what are the types of:
a. asexual reproduction?
b. sexual reproduction?

ELABORATE:

Activity #3 Knowing the right mode

What to do:

1. Observe each organism in the picture carefully.

2. Name the organism/s in each picture and write your answers in the second
column.
3. In the third column, write the number of parents needed to reproduce.
4. Write the mode of reproduction in the last column of the table.

Evaluation: Through “kahoot!” app the teacher and students will play a game. The
teacher will host a quiz through the kahoot app, add questions about the topics and
let the students join the game and play.

Extend: Let students research 2 organisms that undergo sexual and asexual
reproduction. Let them share it to their facebook accounts and start a conversation in
the comment section about the organisms characteristics to lead a discussion.
