• This course covers design of new steel bridges in accordance with current ECP

specifications.

• The procedures and requirements of bridge design will be discussed, and the

corresponding ECP code provisions will be explained through examples.

• Main topics include overview and types of bridges, parts of bridge

superstructure, bridge layout, loads on bridges, bridge design (including design

of floor beams and all other parts of both plate girder & truss bridges).
2. Course Objectives

A s s o c i a t e P r o f . A s h r a f I . M . E l - S a b b a g h , F a c u l t y o f E n g i n e e r i n g – P o r t S a i d Un i v .
By the end of the course the students will be able to:

• Summarize the principles and criteria of bridge design.

• Summarize various types and components of steel bridges.

• Recognize and draw the general arrangement and layout of steel bridges.

• Define and calculate various loads acting on steel bridges per current ECP

Loads Code.

• Perform conventional analysis and design of the components of steel bridges

per current ECP Steel Construction and Bridges Specifications.
