Interpreting the Genetic Testing for Cancer Genes

Cancer is a disease in which some of the body's cells grow and divide in an
uncontrollable manner. There are many genes that regulate these processes and there
are several factors involved in genetic changes that may lead to developing cancer.
That is why there is genetic testing for cancer genes which is available to aid the
detection of some of the genetic abnormalities that can increase the risk of cancer.
Genetic testing is a technique for determining inherited cancer risks.

Discussion of the Case

Genetic testing for some reasons has a great deal in terms of knowing and
preventing early if someone have cancer genes though their body but there is a dispute
between those people that says that genetic testing is necessary, but some says it
wasn’t necessary. According to Cancer.Net (2018) Genetic tests are available for so
many types of cancers and it says that the benefit of these testing is it could predict your
risk in a particular disease, it can find if you have the genes that may pass and increase
the cancer risk to your children and provide information to guide your health care.
Should genetic testing for cancer be available for everyone, or should genetic
testing be confined to a research setting?
Genetic testing is good, but it is not necessary for us to undergo this testing
because not all of us have the amount of money needed just to test if you or your family
members are positive in this testing. Next is there are still disadvantage factors in
genetic testing. This includes the increase of stress and anxiety, may not be eligible if
you do not fit certain criteria required for testing and also negative impact on family and
personal relationship. But in research settings, genetic testing will bring a lot of future
knowledge and success for sure about the prevention of different types of cancer. This
will help the world for curing cancer.

If genetic testing for cancer were offered to you, would you take advantage of it?
Why or why not?
I would not take the advantage of being tested for cancer genes. It is because I
don’t have the money to take this test. It may be good but still there is disadvantages
that prevent me from taking it. It is not also required and necessary for us to take it.
Also, this testing only provide limited information about an inherited condition.
Conclusion
Genetic testing for cancer is a neutral process that will test a person
he/she is positive from inheritance. But for my opinion, it is only good only for research
testing, because there is a lot of risk and disadvantages that is present in this testing.
For sure in the future, this genetic testing for cancer genes will bring a good cause, but
for now, I don’t think that this will help a lot of people.
