A Reaction Pape: Christian Faith, Formation and Education

What could be the essence of learning Christian education? Somehow, it made me think twice
and thrice before I read this book. I mean, we, the people have our own faith but what would be the
effect of this learnins to us. The authors of this book aims to show what is the role of Christian faith in
the world of academe. What caught my attention most are in the chapters 3, 4 and 15. I will discuss it
in order.

John Shortt, the author, stated that Christian Education have a broad meaning and concepts.
People believe that it is just religious or christian belief discussion in academic settings. In other
concept, it is viewed as an institution like church schools or christian schools. Here, in our country
there are a lot of Christian schools open to all those who want to be admitted. But for some, they
believe it is just for christian families or exclusively for those children of church members or linked on
it. However, there are people think of it as non-sense. The author mentioned mentioned an academic
paper writen by educator of Philisophy whom he used to be as a mentor. This author that he
mentioned argued that Christian education is often very dubioud from both an educational and indeed
from a Christian point of view and that much of it is based on general moral principles, scripture or
christian tradition. To sum up, the only way to develop a Christian approach to teaching and learning
is to proceed from biblical principles to practical applications wherein it will produce distinctions and
uniqueness.

In this chapter, the author is Mario D’ Souza featuered the Christian University and the
Anthropology for Adulthood. The secularization of universities as for the academy’s attempt to play no
religious favorities and to make distinctions between theology and religious studies. Christian
universities have depended upon liberal arts and humanities for communication to reflect meaning,
values and education of a whole person. A christian anthropology offers the christian university a
intellectual means to reflect on its revelation regarding the gospels and questions on christian life. It
enables student to question it. It gives a reflection of how a student will think the rational nature of a
person.

Lastly, this chapter the author is David Cracknell which aims to present how christian faith can
engage more effectively witht the Personal and Professional challenges. Christian leadership in
education includes the work of anyone with the responsibilities in the educational systems. It’s about
leading and being led. It covers the leadership roles of the people part of it in their respective
communities.Leadership is a God-led and God-empowered service to all, to envision and to inspire.

By reading this book, I have learned what is purpose of christian education to us. It give us
light to faith and passion. It is not just a christian education but a lit that ignite the fire of wisdom and
faith to what you really believe. Because at some point of your life, you may ask yourself what could
be the meaning of everything. This is book enlightened me and also make sense to everthing I just
know but I do not deeply understand.
