Bookmanager has

everything you need to

run your bookstore.

Your bookstore is more than books, and Bookmanager is more than

just point-of-sale and website technology.

Using a fast, efficient and robust inventory system is essential, but

today it’s also just as important to deliver our community of over 350
independent booksellers with the information needed to keep the right
books in stock. Most store operators wear many hats; Bookmanager’s
goal is to streamline the art of discovery, buying, receiving and sales.

We have our very own 8,000 square foot bookstore, Mosaic Books,
located right below the Bookmanager offices. Our technology and
assistance is rooted in real-world bookselling, and has been our passion
since 1986.
Made for booksellers, by booksellers.
We have over 30 years experience in the indie bookseller game, with over 350 active installa-
tions in large, small and medium-sized shops and we’ve seen the industry evolve dramatically
over the years. During that time, generations of booksellers and their customers have changed,
and we’ve made sure to change along with them.

What sets us apart from other POS providers and inventory programs is that we are book-
sellers too. Downstairs from our offices is our very own Mosaic Books, an 8,000 square foot
space of new and remainder books. The Bookmanager support staff all started out as book-
slingers in the store, and we continue to work very closely with the bookstore staff to develop
new features and test them hands-on, in a live environment. As such, we are very much in
tune with the latest industry changes and challenges because bookselling is literally a part of
our every day business.

The Bookmanager family is growing.

We are well-connected with independent stores of all shapes and sizes. This allows us to in-
corporate ideas from those who actually work in, and understand the needs of independent
bookselling. Like a family, we share ideas and look out for one another, striving to create gen-
uine relationships that are the heart of independent retailing.

Like many of our fellow booksellers, Bookmanager is family owned and operated. Michael Neill,
our president and founder, works alongside his son, and a great team of programmers, tech-
nical support and design wizards. Downstairs, the iconic bookstore is managed by Michael’s
daughter and wife. Michael himself is a second generation bookseller; saying it runs in the
family is an understatement, and our commitment to the longevity of the book industry has
become a family legacy.

We have had different inventory systems over the years (most recently, Square1),
but nothing has quite made our lives as easy as Bookmanager. We love the flexibility
and integration it provides, and particularly the ease of communication (email, fax,
FTP, Pubnet) for orders and customers. The staff are fantastic and made our transi-
tion to Bookmanager exceptionally smooth and easy. Their responsiveness to prob-
lems and suggestions has been unprecedented in a tech company, in our experience.
We particularly value their enthusiasm about new ideas and their willingness to inte-
grate new features into their program.

- KIRSTEN LARMON, MUNRO’S BOOKS (VICTORIA, BC)

A bookseller’s best friend.
In Canada, Bookmanager is a household name in the book biz because our focus has allowed
us to develop strong and personal relationships with both booksellers and publishers, and then
create innovative solutions for the changing terrain. We incorporate the things most important
to the industry and its shapers, with new features and angles added on a weekly basis. Like
your store and customers, Bookmanager is a dynamic company that considers your input
and suggestions invaluable.

When we were considering migrating from Square1 to a new POS, we received

many glowing reports of Bookmanager. But, in all honesty, none of those reviews
prepared us for the amazing customer service we have received from Michael and his
crew. One of The Bookies slogans is “a store unlike any other.” The amazing staff and
programmers honored our touchstone and built tools that accommodated our
uniqueness. In reality, we know no bookstore is like any other. And I firmly believe that
Bookmanager would treat any of its customers with the same exceptional care as we
have experienced.

- STEVE METZGER, THE BOOKIES (DENVER, CO)

Stores who have been with us since the beginning (way back in the 80’s!) have watched us
evolve and easily accommodate the “must have” essentials of this ever-changing industry.
We’ve kept the POS visual interface “old school” for unparalleled speed and efficiency, with the
latest technology under the hood. We’re like a classic car with a brand new Tesla engine.

ƹƹ Access to current and instant stock availability and prices from over 140 publishers, wholesal-
ers, distributors and remainder companies (Pubstock).

ƹƹ Bookmanager Analytics will help you understand your inventory and identify opportunities that
will increase profits by seeing what is driving sales or eating up your cash.
ƹƹ Manage new, remainder, signed and used books separately, all while giving your online custom-
ers a simplified buying approach.

ƹƹ Discover and order new and remainder books using our extensive array of browser-based tools
and publisher catalogs that transfer directly into your system, or easily import catalog orders
from Edelweiss with a single click.
ƹƹ Keep extensive history of your sales, orders, returns & customer activity, as well as integrate it
all with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger modules.

We could not be happier with Bookmanager, both as a POS system and as a

company. The program is a dream and the customer service is outstanding - they
were with us every step of the switchover from our old POS and it was a snap. Plus,
they’re booksellers themselves so they know what matters. Not to mention they
throw great parties.

ƹƹ Take special orders on the spot, within seconds. When orders arrive, books are automatically
flagged and set aside with the customer’s name upon receiving. Gone are the days of keeping
a separate notebook for customer orders and call-backs.

ƹƹ Use Bookmanager’s StockChecker, a browser plug-in extension that is used to instantly view
inventory/sales stats and order titles found on any website (e.g. iPage, Amazon, GoodReads,
Edelweiss; any site containing an ISBN).

ƹƹ Order electronically directly from your system with most wholesalers, distributors and pub-
lishers (FTP & Pubnet).

ƹƹ Optionally use removable thermal price labels to standardize your regular or sale prices, brand
your store, eliminate receiving errors, categorize books, identify sources and provide date codes
for fast on-the-spot overstock returns.

Bargain/Sale label (left) and regular price label (right). Actual sizes.
ƹƹ Sell non-book product, magazines, cards, tickets, consignments, or run your coffee bar.

ƹƹ Clearly differentiate stock as being reserved for customers, overstock returns, held in the back
room, or on order.

ƹƹ Use our remote point-of-sale module for off-site sales (i.e.: author events & book fairs).

ƹƹ Integrate your credit/debit card terminal processing at the point-of-sale with Clearent, Chase
Paymentech, and Applied Merchant. Save credit card information in a secure, encrypted man-
ner. Take credit card payments online using encrypted transfers, PayPal, or Authorize.net.

ƹƹ Sell/redeem your own reusable gift cards and track their activity. We provide an in-house gift
card design service if you want us to design, produce, and ship the cards directly to your store.

ƹƹ Assign staff their own unique clerk codes and passwords, giving them access to only the areas
and functions of Bookmanager you want. Clerk codes also allow you to track what staff do in
Bookmanager, and is a great way of correcting mistakes while training new staff.

ƹƹ Collaborate with other independents to find more books and make informed ordering/returns
decisions. Peers sales sharing can be seen online and in the Bookmanager software.

and find, order, and reserve product. Your inventory is automatically and instantly synced with
your Bookmanager POS system. The Webstore is also a powerful tool for schools and sales reps.
ƹƹ Make receiving a breeze with electronic invoices. Accurately reconcile shipments, fill special
orders, and record problems. Electronic receiving is the bookend to electronic ordering. It will
save you countless hours and improve accuracy. It’s the cat’s meow; just ask any receiver using
Bookmanager about the hundreds of hours they save every year going electronic.

ƹƹ Backup your system and data automatically, as frequently as you like. Scheduled backups can
be stored locally on your hard drive, flash drives, over your network, or uploaded to our secure
server. Our motto, “No backup, no job!”

ƹƹ Receive unlimited telephone support with our helpful one-on-one remote desktop connection.

ƹƹ Email orders or customer notifications, generate Excel spreadsheets, export documents as Ado-
be PDFs, export email or mailing addresses for use in other programs, and create shipping la-
bels... all directly from Bookmanager.

ƹƹ Offer your customers a Frequent Buyer Program (no card, no cost!) that tracks and redeems
points accumulated through purchases. Different products can be flagged to collect different
amounts of points, so the customization is thorough, yet quickly enabled.

ƹƹ Enable multi-store features to share/exchange information between multiple retail locations.

Data is automatically synced between locations, a single webstore simplifies online shopping,
and ordering/transferring stock between stores is a breeze.

nial Bookmanager Academy retreat held in the gorgeous Okanagan Valley.
Switching to a new POS is not a task to take lightly, and I did a ridiculous
amount of research before making the change from Basil. We were a little worried
about the DOS-y look of Bookmanager, but it’s far simpler than it initially appears,
and I haven’t regretted the switch even for a minute. The program is strong, smart
and frequently updated; the staff is epically responsive, kind and communicative
(the weekly Tips and Tricks email they send is a gem). I love seeing their conscious
approach to their own growth, and it’s deeply reassuring to know that they’re book-
sellers just like us.

- LACY SIMONS, HELLO HELLO BOOKS (ROCKLAND, ME)

What does it take to make the switch?

If we’ve caught your attention, the next step is to call us! If you visit our site, bookmanager.
com and grab a demo download, you are likely going to feel overwhelmed. We’d prefer to kick
things off over the phone, to hear your needs and concerns. We only want to proceed when
you are confident and ready. If you want references and to chat with new Bookmanager users,
we’re more than happy to make the connection and introductions.

If you’re already working with another system, there’s no need to worry. Using Bookmanager
doesn’t mean you have to lose all of your previous work. We have extensive experience con-
verting from other systems. With a remote connection it’s easy for us to have a look at your
data and see just how much of your current information can be transferred into Bookmanager.
No financial commitment is made until we are both confident it is the right move for you.

In my 45 years of bookselling, Bookmanager is by far the most usable, intuitive

and FASTEST system! The way they present information allows me to focus on the key
decisions I want to make, without distractions or further work. Plus, their complete-
ly integrated tools gives us a significant cost savings over other comparable pro-
grams. And their level of support, communication and commitment to constant im-
provement is completely beyond every other system that I have encountered!

- JACK WOLCOTT, GRASS ROOTS BOOKS & MUSIC (CORVALLIS, OR)

New stores use anywhere from a little to a lot of what we offer. Your present system is familiar
to your staff, so a changeover may seem daunting or risky. Most prefer a gradual implemen-
tation, and learn the system in small bite-sized sessions. Our support will guide you through
the best strategy to getting started.

Together, we need to be certain that a change will not disrupt or leave you without features
critical to your way of doing business. We are successful because we have been honest and
frank with our abilities.
It starts with good people.
