Introduction

IMPhO (Indonesian Medical Physiology Olympiad) is the first and only national-level
medical physiology competition in Indonesia, organised by the Physiology
Department and Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Keluarga Mahasiswa Faculty of
Medicine, Universitas Airlangga. IMPhO has been held since 2017 and consists of 3
main activities: Medical Physiology Olympiad, Virtual Campus Tour, and Awarding
Time. This competition will test the understanding and knowledge of medical
students related to physiology which is a basic science in medicine. In 2021, IMPhO
will be held from September 25th to 26th 2021 on the online platform.
Terms and Conditions
1. Applicants are medical students from the Faculty of Medicine in Indonesia.
2. Each university may send a maximum 2 teams, and each team consists of 3
persons.
3. Applicants who have joined previous IMPhO and IMSPQ are not allowed to
apply for IMPhO 2021.
4. The quota for applicants in IMPhO 2021 is 70 teams.
Registration

4. The participant’s registration fee includes following facilities:
a. ID Card
b. Certificate
c. Various activities/performances
5. After paying the registration fee, applicants are obliged to fill the registration
form (Available on: http://bit.ly/IMPhO2021Registration) (1 form for each
team) and submit the documents required as follows:
a. Scan of statement letters for parents approval and resignation due to
COVID-19 (2 statement letters for each team member and merged in
one file for each team)
For participants' safety, considering that IMPhO activities require
participants to gather face-to-face, a signed statement stating that
parents agree and allow participants to meet in person is required. In
addition, participants need to make a statement that participants are
willing to resign if they are tested positive for COVID-19.

d. Passport photo of each applicant in 3X4 size

6. After filling the registration form, applicants have to confirm through LINE
Official Account of IMPhO 2021: @846mcncf (with “@”) by the format:
IMPhO2021_University Name_Team Leader Full Name.
7. Prior to the event (two days before the event until the time of the event),
participants are required to collect the results of the COVID-19 test (rapid
antigen test/pcr test) through form (1 form for each team) that will be
distributed by the liaison officer.
8. Applicants have to prepare these documents to re-register during IMPhO
2021:
a. ID Card
b. Applicants’ student card
9. The registration payment cannot be refunded.
10. If applicants want to change their team’s composition, applicants should
contact LINE Official Account of IMPhO 2021: @846mcncf (with “@”) before
10th September 2021 by the format of CT_IMPhO2021_University

a. Scan of new applicants’ student card
b. New applicants’ profile photo
11. IMPhO 2020 committee has the authority to disqualify the following
applicants:
a. Applicants who register with falsified information or documents
b. Applicants who do not fulfil the registration fee
c. Applicants who are not fulfilling the terms and conditions for
registration.
12. The registration will be closed prior to the deadline if maximum capacity is
reached.
13. Applicants have to finish the registration prior to the competition.
14. Any further necessity required for re-registration will be announced later.

Rewards
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winner of Indonesian Medical Physiology Olympiad (IMPhO)
2021 will be rewarded with a certificate, trophy (only for the 1st winner), medals, and
money. Meanwhile, the top five contestants with the highest score in the written test
of Indonesian Medical Physiology Olympiad (IMPhO) 2021 will be rewarded with a
certificate and stethoscope.
1st winner : Rp 3.500.000,00
2nd winner : Rp 2.000.000,00
3rd winner : Rp 1.500.000,00

Competition Rules
IMPhO 2021 consists of 1 written (preliminary round) and 3 oral rounds (quarterfinal,
semifinal and final round).
❖ Written round
● General rules
a. Every participant needs to prepare two devices in the form of 1 personal
computer / laptop and 1 tablet / mobile phone.
b. PC / laptop will be used to do MCQ and true or false questions.
c. Tablet / mobile phone will be used to access the zoom meeting which
acts as a virtual quiz room that will be attended by the supervisory
committee.
d. The positions of the two devices are as follows :

e. When entering a zoom meeting, participants are required to change their


name with (team number_full name).
f. Before the quiz starts, participants will be asked to show the condition of
their respective rooms through a zoom camera. The position of the zoom
camera is required to be able to show the position of the entrance to the
room at the time of the quiz.
g. Participants are required to activate the camera and unmute their zoom
at the time of the quiz.
h. Participants are not allowed to use headsets, earphones, and any device
that prevents the committee from listening to the voices around the
participants.
i. Participants will be put in a break out room. Information about the
distribution of break out rooms will be given at the technical meeting.
j. The quiz will be held on an online platform.
k. Participants are required to provide a stable internet connection. If there
is a network problem during the quiz, then participants must be back
online within 3 minutes (no additional time is given in this case). If within
a total of 3 minutes the participant does not come back online on zoom,
then the participant will automatically be disqualified.
l. Participants are required to provide a quiet room as a place for the test.
m. Participants are only allowed to start the quiz if they have been ordered
by the room supervisor.
n. Any late participants are only allowed to take the quiz without time
extension after granting permissions from supervisors.
o. Participants are prohibited to leave the quiz area before time runs out,
even if they have already finished filling the answer sheet.
● Preliminary round
All participants of all teams must participate in the written test individually.
The written test itself consists of 100 questions with 25 MCQ questions
and 75 true or false questions on physiology of various human body
systems. Duration for the written test is 60 minutes. A correct answer will
earn 1 point; no answer will earn 0 point; and an incorrect answer will
be penalized 1 point. The questions will be done sequentially (meaning
that participants cannot change the answers to questions that have been
done or skipped). Final point is the total accumulated points of the whole
team members. Top 16 teams will proceed to the quarterfinal round.
❖ Oral round
● General rules
a. Every team needs to prepare four devices in the form of 2 personal
laptop and 2 tablets / handphones
b. 1 laptop will be used to answer the questions on online platform
c. The remaining devices will be used to access the zoom meeting which
acts as a virtual quiz room that will be attended by the supervisory
committee. The positions of the three devices are as follows :

d. When entering zoom meeting, participants are expected to change their


name with (team id_representative name).
e. The laptop device used for supervision will be in the main room while the
tablet / cellphone device will be placed on a separate break out from the
other teams so that each team can still discuss and can still be monitored
simultaneously
f. Laptop devices in the mainroom must always be muted. While the tablets
/ mobile phone device that is in the break out room must be in an
unmuted state.
g. Before the quiz starts, participants will be asked to show the condition of
their respective rooms through a zoom camera. The position of the zoom
camera is required to be able to show the position of the entrance to the
room at the time of the quiz.
h. Participants are not allowed to use headsets, earphones, and any device
that prevents the committee from listening to the voices around the
participants.
i. Participants are required to provide a stable internet connection. If there
is a network problem during the quiz, then participants must be back
online within 3 minutes. If in a total of 3 minutes the participant doesn’t
come back online on zoom, then the quiz will be continued without
waiting for the participant to go online.
j. Under unexpected conditions, the committee has rights to change the
rules of the Oral Quiz session.
❖ Quarterfinal round
1. 16 teams from the written quiz will be divided into 4 phases with 4 teams
each phases
2. The Quarterfinal round consists of 10 short answer questions. The question
will be read orally. All teams will be given 20 seconds to input their
questions in the online platform.
3. Team discussions is allowed in this round
4. A correct answer is awarded 10 marks while an incorrect answer will NOT
be penalized.
5. The highest score of each group will progress to the semi-final round. The
2 teams with the highest score of all phases (not include, the best team of
each group) will progress to the semi-final round. In total, 6 teams will
proceed into the semi-final round. In the event of tie, the marks of the
written test will be used to decide which team proceeds to the semifinal
round.
❖ Semifinal round
1. The 6 qualified teams will face each other in one phase.
2. The semifinal round consists of 10 questions. The question will be read
orally. All teams will be given 20 seconds to input their questions in the
online platform.
3. Team discussion is allowed in this round.
4. A correct answer is awarded 10 marks while an incorrect answer will NOT
be penalized.
5. The team that answers the questions correctly 3 times in a row will get an
additional 1,5 times from the original points in the next correct answer. (This
streak will lose if the team fails to answer the question correctly).
6. 3 teams with the highest scores will proceed to the final round.
❖ Final round
1. There will be 2 parts of the final round.
2. In the first part, each team will choose 3 questions from a total of 20
questions.
3. The correct answer to the question will get 20 points.
4. Answering the question with the wrong answer will get a score reduction of
half of the points of the correct score.
5. If the team that gets the question fails to answer the question correctly,
then the other team can get the opportunity to provide answers to the
question by pressing the online buzzer button. The fastest team that
presses the button has the right to answer the question. In this case, if the
answering team gives the correct answer, it will get a score equal to half of
the original point score, while a wrong answer will not get a point
deduction.
6. In the second part, there will be 5 questions in total.
7. Teams who want to answer are required to press the online buzzer button.
The fastest team to press the button has the right to answer the question.
8. A correct answer to the question will get 20 points while an incorrect answer
will NOT be penalized.
9. The winner of IMPhO 2021 is the team with the highest total score from
both parts of the final round.
