Great inventions in the 21st century

Internet was developed to become to what is known now, a day lifeline we all use for
communication, whether it is in the form of e-mails, audios, videos or written messages. It’s our
form of networking, sharing photos, and buying anything.

In January of 2001, ITunes was invented. ITunes was marketed as a solution to evolve from millions
of CDs and CD cases to one simple platform, where you could have all your music stored in one
place. That same year, the iPod was introduced, the device was made to receive all the audio files
that were already in your iTunes, in order to take your music anywhere.

The first iPod sold, was a model that had 5GB in storage. The iPod had several evolution processes
where new models were made with different storage capacities, shapes, colours and sizes. It took
some years until the iPhone was invented.

This revolutionary device was released in 2007, modifying the way mobile phones were produced
and used, forever. The IPhone was the first user friendly mobile phone that introduced a multi-touch
interface with only four real buttons. Its user friendly interface, as well as its access to data, pictures
and music, made the iPhone a must have for all technology fans.

The iPhone wouldn't have had such a huge impact if it weren´t for all the apps and web platforms
that have been created afterwards. Imagine looking at your iPhone with no applications, there
would be no need on having it anymore.

Think about some major social networks we use nowadays. An important social media creation was
Facebook, set up in 2004, although it was not the first social networking website ever created, it
was and still is one of the most influential social platforms.

Part of what allowed Facebook to succeed so much, is the way different businesses have used it as
a marketing tool, allowing interaction with its customers or consumers. Facebook now has over 150
million users, who use it for communicating with friends as well as businesses through an easy
accessible platform with a variety of features.

One of the major breaking networks now used is YouTube which was launched in 2005. It wasn't
too long ago since we lived without this video platform. YouTube was a ground-breaking idea at its
time, due to the fact that any type of video could be found there. From music videos to a chemistry
class tutorial, the idea of providing a forum for anyone, to upload any type of legal content while
using Adobe Flash video technology, was a revolution at its time. It opened up a possibility for
different businesses to promote themselves while allowing individuals to search for different topics
of interest.

When talking about music, one of the most influential music platforms has been Spotify. It was
founded in 2006 in Sweden and it is now used by over 75 million users all over the world. What
made this project a success was its innovative platform where users had no need to download the
music files, but instead pay a rent to have unlimited access to the platform with all types of music,
artists and playlists at the touch of your fingers.

Nowadays it´s not common to find someone who has never used at least one of these gadgets or
apps. Technological advances have made our day to day easier in many aspects leading to a strong
dependence on them for our daily activities.
