The Effect of Alcohol Addiction to the Academic Performance of the Students

Background of the Study

In the Philippines 30% of young people between the ages of 13 and 20 consume drinking
alcohol monthly and the same percentage. of 12th graders engage in binge drinking, defined as
consuming five or more drinks in a row at least once per week. studies have shown that there is a
clear correlation between alcohol abuse and academic failure.
Addicted minors may miss school more often and may have difficulty concentrating at
school when in class. Drinking can lead to youth being alienated from their peer group and can
increase depression, which has a significant impact on a child's academic performance. studies
have shown that students with low grades are more likely to drink or do drugs than study and
those who abstain from alcohol receive higher grades than those who use drugs and alcohol. the
centers for disease control studied the relationship between drug and alcohol use and academic
performance and found that students with low grades were more likely to use alcohol, engage in
binge drinking, trying drugs before the age of 18, to use marijuana.
Lower grades, absenteeism, and a higher likelihood of dropping out have been shown to
be associated with adolescent alcohol abuse. research has even shown that low levels of
educational commitment and higher levels of withdrawal and absenteeism are associated with
alcohol abuse among minors. In addition, alcohol abuse has been shown to cause mental and
behavioral problems in minors, can interfere with academic performance and can create
academic challenges from their teachers and from peers. the human mind continues to develop
until 30, and drinking or using drugs during this period can hinder and damage the development
of the brain. this can cause young people to make irresponsible decisions, suffer from memory
and to process and transmit neural impulses at a reduced rate. The main purpose of research is to
inform action to prove a theory, and contribute to the development of learning knowledge.

Statement of the Problem

1. What is the Profile of the respondents, In terms of;

Hypothesis
There is no significance relationship between Drugs and Alcohol Addiction to the Sex,
Age, Grade level of the students of Tandoc National High School?

Scope and Delimitation

This study is directed to find a solution to the use of alcohol in the classroom, started in
July until July 2023. The students of Tandoc National High School raging their age of 18 years
old will be school respondents.
There was a grade level that was not asked because we were still shy and we might just
be fooled and laughed at by other students

Significant of study
This research will be useful to students because they will know the negative effects of
drinking alcohol on their academic performance. In this study the students can be aware of the
things that drinking alcohol can do to them. This research will also be useful to teachers and
administrators because they will be able to understand the changes in attitude towards life and
academic performance of students who have been involved in the use of alcohol and drugs. they
can easily understand the behavior of students. this research will help parents know the risk of
that they can help to prevent and prevent their child from using alcohol. this research will be
useful in future research because they can get some information that may be needed in their
research and some of their questions can possibly be answered by this research.
