Topic 1: “Steven Pinker-Linguistics as a Window to Understanding the Brain”

Identify and write 3 main ideas from the video and explain why this information is important
to know for students and teachers (250 words minimum)

 Language as the main part of the human being.

 Language is made up of words and rules that regulate how we must put
these words together.
 Language is not learned by memorizing everything they hear, but by
“understanding in some way the basic rules that make it up, with this being
able to create new combinations.
Language is the center of human life, since it allows us to communicate with each
other and if we address it to students and teachers, it is essential within an
educational institution, especially to carry out the different activities in our
societies.
The interesting thing about the rules within the language is that it allows us great
creativity, due to the large and varied combinations of the different words. Just as it
allows us the expression of meanings that we do not know. Within the linguistic
interfaces, we have two aspects, that of comprehension and that of language
production. In production this is because we have the trachea, larynx, vocal cords,
these vibrations that cause sounds, the cavities of the tongue, mouth, teeth. The
different configurations of the cavities of our mouth, and the different movements
that we make with our tongue, make the sound or sounds that will be obtained vary.
On the other hand, we have the contributions of the linguist Chomsky in the
grammatical area, who talks about creativity to produce new sentences, and explain
them. A second contribution is that languages have a syntax that cannot be
identified with their meaning, that is, sentences may not have a meaning, but at the
same time, have a logical order.
