OEL Brief

Dalton’s law states that the pressure exerted by a mixture of gases is equal to the sum of
partial pressure of each gas. Students are required to design an apparatus to validate the
Dalton’s law of partial pressure.

The designed apparatus should include mechanisms:

1. to measure the partial pressure of gases,
2. to measure the total pressure of the mixture.
Deliverables:
1. A report including:
a. literature review comparing different designs,
b. selection of design requirements,
c. design calculations based on the design requirements,
d. drawings with dimensions,
e. construction of the equipment
f. cost analysis
Note: All the calculations should be made in SI units.
2. A presentation on the design process.
3. Group opting for manufacturing their design will be awarded extra marks based
on their progress.

Submission Deadline: 1:00pm 17th April 2023

Note: The progress on the project will be routinely monitored through discussions and/or
presentations.
