 POLYCARBONATE
Polycarbonates (PC) are a group of thermoplastic polymers
containing carbonate groups in their chemical structures.
Polycarbonates used in engineering are strong, tough materials,
and some grades are optically transparent. They are easily
worked, molded, and thermoformed. Because of these
properties, polycarbonates find many applications.
HISTORY

The original polycarbonate was

discovered in 1953 by the German
chemist Hermann Schnell, an employee
at the Bayer AG chemical company.
Then the product was discovered almost
simultaneously in the United States by
chemist Daniel W. Fox at the General
Electric Company.
