D. Skeletal View of an Introduction
 What is the topic all about?
With schools all over the world redesigning because of COVID-19, blended learning
is becoming a popular learning system under the new normal (Larry Ferlazzo, 2020).
With the advent of the COVID-19 virus, it has significantly affected the educational
systems worldwide, leaving 1.2 billion students in 189 countries to disregard
schooling (Tupas, Laguda, 2020). Hybrid Learning was given vast consideration
during the occurrence of the present events, but this concept has its existence in the
Philippines long ago back in 2007. Since traditional learning cannot be executed
because of the pandemic, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones proposed this blended
learning as an alternative learning approach to avoid the disruption of the learning
experiences among the students (Custodio, 2020).
 The topic which is the focus of research is about evaluating or determining the
influence of blended learning to the cognitive learning ability of the Grade 11
students of the Fellowship Baptist College. As blended learning was implemented
amidst the pandemic, this study aims to provide information about the system in
delivering the desired learning experiences among the students. In the overall
learning process, we get to acknowledge the difficulties that the Grade 11 students of
FBC have encountered in this School Year, 2021-2022. For instance, determining
how the new learning system affects the students’ understanding will help us assess
its performance. And with that perception, we can develop the New Learning System
that is student friendly and foremost can deliver effectively the desired learning
experiences of the Grade 11 students.

 What do studies say about this?

Blended Learning is utilized to enhance the efficiency of learning by associating
electronic learning resources with traditional teaching methods and resources.
Additionally, it is mainly described as the combination of traditional face-to-face
teaching and online teaching (Garrison & Kanula, 2004; Osguthorpe & Graham,
2003; Williams, 2002).

2
A study by Ruchan Uz and Adem Uzun (yr) from Uludag University, Turkey,
postulates that Blended Learning provides a better learning experience since it is the
integration of both traditional and internet-based learning. It can potentially aid in the
development of a student’s self-regulatory discipline in oneself. Specifically,
progress in his/her behavior, regulate their learning objectives, cognitions, and
motivations. Thus, self-regulation is one’s impact, guidance, and control of their
behaviors (Senemoglu, 2005). Furthermore, in a study conducted by Liu (2009), it
was remarked that the satisfaction level of the learners towards this learning
environment was quite high. And in a similar study by Shen and Tsai (2011), the
level of college students taught in a mixed learning environment with self-regulated
learning assistance was greater than that of the students using the traditional learning
environments. Those students subject to blended learning modality have more
accomplishments that those of the pupils in the other groups.

Furthermore, based on the study of Picciano (2006), Blended Learning can also be
employed to regulate concerns amongst learning administrations or programs. For
instance, a public urban university (USF) had an abrupt increases rate of 7-9% of
enrollment growth due to the adoption of blended learning. With the shortage of
learning facilities in school, they suggested to institutionalize the use of blended
learning to recapture classroom space. Hence, the president’s cabinet now approves
the proposal and is currently working on the conversion of making their courses into
a blended format.

With the involvement of School Administrations, Dr. Tufan’s research determined

the effect of the B-Learning approach on developing the administrator’s leadership
skills. With the provision of questionnaires and the results of the pre-test, it was
found that Blended Learning was the most effective learning approach compared
with Computer-based and Traditional Learning. As asserted that B-Learning
Opportunities produce engaging learning and teaching activities, however, there were
downsides according to the respondents of Dr. Tufan’s study (opinions of the School
Administrators). Some of these include the inability to access the learning platform,
lack of enthusiasm, and failed expectations when it comes to lecture materials.

3
In the final analysis, Blended learning evokes success in the learning environment
based on the studies of various researchers. As it is an integration of both traditional
and electronic resources, it was revealed that self-regulated learning in a learner
becomes well-developed. Apart from that, B-learning also establishes convenience to
learning administrations and administrators. To have the capability to expand the
learning environment beyond school areas makes Blended Learning flexible for all of
the students. However, there are still difficulties that both the teacher and learner may
face on the implementation of B-Learning.

 What makes your study different from the reviewed studies? What are the different
issues or gaps?

Our study aims to assess the New Learning System by determining its influence on the
chosen group of respondents in regards to B-Learning. In the process of determining a
topic, we’ve acquired many concerns among our colleagues, thus, we wanted to address a
solution to the problems stated above. In determining the influence of Blended Learning
on the cognitive ability of the grade 11 students of FBC, we will be able to validate our
concerns on a major scale and can propose to address a possible solution of the existing
problems that may be identified by the respondents.

In spite of affirming the New Learning System’s success as postulated by other studies,
based on our proposed study, we can ultimately and confidentially determine its evident
flaws and thus possible solutions can be offer to improve further the use of blended
learning in enhancing the cognitive ability of the grade 11 students of FBC.

Though the system is acknowledged to be successful for other students, there’s a gap
between the respondents of the researched studies (mentioned above) between our
(supposedly) chosen respondents. Mainly, the purpose of implementing the B-Learning
System was to avoid the disruption of academic learning amidst the pandemic.
Furthermore, we can also consider the current economic state of the country. Given the
concept of various Societal Classes, we can assert that not all students can easily access
the platform, nor have access to technological resources that aid in the implementation of
the blended learning.

4
Additionally, the influence of the B-Learning System itself on the students’ learning pace
can be a considerable issue. Affirming that not all students share the same learning pace,
Blended learning may not be sufficient enough to address the needs of a student’s
cognitive learning.

Therefore, as researchers, we are motivated and compelled to validate our claims by

obtaining data from our respondents. And in the process of assessing the performance of
B-Learning through this study, we can determine iits influence among the chosen
respondents in terms of their cognitive ability, identify the possible flaws of the system
and thus we can establish the need of establishing a solution with these flaws or concerns.

 What is the situation of your school/locale/research site related to your chosen topic?
In accordance with the locale’s restrictions in consideration of the presence of the
pandemic, the school administration is currently implementing Blended Learning from
Basic to Higher Education in the continuance of the School Year 2021-2022. The
Learning System is an integration of Online Classes conducted every week, and also the
provision of hard copy modules given on a monthly basis. The Scholastic Papers that are
required to be submitted by the subject teachers are also passed monthly.

 What is the purpose of your study? (Align this with your general objectives)
The purpose of this study is to identify the influence of Blended Learning on the
Cognitive Learning Ability of the Student. Besides helping in providing more accessible
resources to the students and developing a learning system for their convenience, there’s
a need of identifying how B-Learning affects the Learning Pace of the students. To
acknowledge the influence of this system on our chosen respondents, we can provide
information that may contribute to the development of a Learning System that is flexible
to the learner’s cognitive pace.
Scope and Limitation of the Study

E. Significance of the Study

Students. As the primary participants in the study, they will be more educated about the
many types of learning systems, as well as the relevance of blended learning in today's
school year. Also, obtaining their reaction to this learning modality can be beneficial in
making the new system suitable to them, if such changes are made in response to the issues
revealed in the process of the research.

Teachers. The findings of this study may motivate teachers to broaden their teaching scope.
They can study more or improve their levels of student teaching activities and approaches to
improve further the cognitive ability of their students. Having an overview of their students'
responses in the learning system may help them develop or improve some areas in terms of
their issues, conduct, preferences, and so on. As a result, they are able to assist pupils who
are experiencing difficulties with their learning pace.

6
Parents. The findings of this study would also assist the students' parents. As adults, they
can better comprehend learning principles and assist their children in learning. They will be
able to determine which areas they may assist their children who are enrolled in the new
learning system. They may, for example, help their children comprehend a specific subject.
As a result, the students will be able to improve their Cognitive Learning Ability.

Future Researcher. The results of this study can contribute to future researchers. They will
know more about the topic and broaden their knowledge in the said field. They will be able
to help in developing any solution to the concerns being identified in this study.

School Administration. Depending on the findings of this survey, they may be able to
change their approach to blended learning and develop it further based on the comments or
recommendations provided by respondents. The research would assist them in gaining an
understanding of the Influence of the New Learning System on Fellowship Baptist College's
Grade 11 Senior High Students.
