Assessment is crucial in classroom management, but the pandemic has brought challenges
in accurately assessing the learners. However, the Department of Education provides INSET and
LAC to ensure that efficient assessment will still take place. For this session, teachers determined
various formative assessment that can be used during the ODL and MDL classes. In addition to
that, some teachers were asked to present their outputs in enhancing formative assessment in
AIRS-LMS/

In collaboration with MTs and HTs, teachers were asked to include formative assessment in
the Weekly Home Learning Plan (WHLP) in line with the MELCs. Checking the efficiency of the
assessment were also done to ensure relevance and accuracy of the formative assessment.
Furthermore, the results of their formative assessments provided a picture on the performance of
the student and guided the teacher on modification of his or her WHLPs.

The attendees gained insights on the importance of formative assessment which is line with
the MELCs for each topic provided in their SLMs. Formative assessments provide teachers idea
on the performance of the students during the lesson and allows the teacher to modify his or her
strategies to achieve the desired competencies. Furthermore, the attendees also learned about
the types of different formative assessment that they can use in addition to their self-learning
modules such as creation of short quizzes, polls etc. Feedbacking was also an essential part of
formative assessment and this was also included in the discussion.
