INTRODUCTION
Students' exposure to "on-the-job training" focuses on the acquisition of skills inside the
work environment, often under normal working settings. Prior to the invention of off-site
training classes, it was the first type of training. Working beside an experienced employee in a
particular craft or profession was the only real way to learn a job. Students learn both broad skills
that they may use to other jobs and specialized skills that are specific to a given job through on-
the-job training. Verbal and textual education, demonstration and observation, hands-on practice
and imitation, and on-the-job training are all included in the exposure to training. Several studies
indicate that it is the most effective form of training. The largest share of on the-job training is
provided by the different establishments. On-the-job training programs range from formal
training with company supervisors to learning by watching.
