Exercise duration: ~20 minutes

Modeling in Revit
This exercise allows you to practice modeling
techniques available within Revit. Not all
concepts or techniques are shown. The primary
goal is to provide the basic details of each of
these modeling techniques and for you to use
the tools and understand how they are used.

Learning objectives:

• Work with walls and wall types.


The completed exercise
• Create and modify floors, roofs, and
ceilings.

1. Open the Lesson 02 Practice


exercise.rvt start file (created in Revit
2019).

2. Create a basic wall type (Exterior –


Brick on Metal Stud) with the layers Material Thickness
shown in Figure 2. Brick 3 5/8"
Air 3"
Air Infiltration Barrier 0"
Plywood Sheathing 3/4"
Metal Stud Layer 6"
Vapor Retarder 0"

3. Create a stacked wall type using the


following two basic walls:
• Exterior – Brick on Metal Stud
(Variable height)
• Exterior – CMU on Metal Stud (3’
0”)

Using the stacked wall type, create a


building exterior that is 150' wide x 75'
deep. Walls should be from Level 1 to
Top of parapet.

4. Using the Interior – 4 7/8ʺ Partition
basic wall type (shown in Figure 4),
create eight offices on Level 1 inside
the building.

5. Add ceilings to the offices created on
Level 1.

6. Model a roof at the Roof level and add


two low points using the shape editing
tools. The elevation of these points
should be -10". Refer to the image in
Figure 6 for the location of the points.
