GENERAL INFORMATION
1. Each candidate should have the following for this examination:

Traditional Drawing Method

Two sheets of drawing paper (both sides may be used)


Drawing instruments
Drawing board and tee square
Metric scale rule

Computer-Aided Drafting Method

A minimum of six sheets of size 8–"


1 x 11" OR three sheets size 11" x 17" paper

Computer-Aided Drafting software

N.B. ALL solutions to questions attempted for this Option MUST be PRINTED for sub-
mission.

2. All dimensions are given in millimetres unless otherwise stated.

3. When first-angle or third-angle is not specified, the choice of projection is left to the candi-
date’s discretion, in which case the type of projection used MUST be clearly stated.

4. The candidate should use his/her own judgement to supply any dimensions or other details
not directly shown on the drawings.

5. The number of each question answered MUST be written next to the solution.

6. Each candidate MUST enter his/her school code and registration number in the appropriate
space at the bottom right-hand corner of the drawing paper.

This paper has TWO sections: Working Drawing, and Sketch and Design OR 3D Solid Model
Design Drawing.

Answer ONE question from the Working Drawing and One question from Sketch and Design OR
3D Solid Model Design Drawing.

Candidates MAY use EITHER the Traditional Drawing Method OR the Computer-Aided Drafting
Method.

1. Figure 1, on the enclosed sheet, shows the floor plan for a low-income, first-time home owners’
residential project. The building is to be covered with a gable roof as indicated in the drawing.
(a) Draw to a scale of 1:50, the full sectional drawing of the building “A-A” to include:

(i) Foundation
(ii) Floor
(iii) Walls
(iv) Roof
(v) At least three vertical dimensions.
Show clearly all sectional construction details.

(b) Use a suitable scale to draw an enlarged sectional view of a TYPICAL FLOOR DETAIL.
Show all sectional floor and foundation details.
Show clearly ALL construction details.
Label ALL main construction members.
Print a suitable title and scale used at the base of EACH drawing.
Dimensions not given are left to the candidates’ discretion.

Specifications:

Doors: Internal – panel door, 750 wide x 2000 mm high


Windows: Casement type – 1200 wide x 1200 mm high
Walls: External – concrete blocks, 150 mm thick, plastered on both sides
Internal – concrete blocks, 100 mm thick, plastered on both sides
Floor: Reinforced concrete slabs, 150 mm thick
Foundation: Reinforced continuous strip footing, 200 mm thick x 600 mm wide
Foundation wall – 200 mm concrete block filled with concrete
Roof: Fascia 50 x 200 mm pitch pine
Gable roof with 450 mm overhang
Minimum height of finished floor to top of ring beam 2550 mm

2. The outline of a floor plan for a low-income, first-time home owners’ residential project is given
in Figure 1 on the enclosed sheet.
The building consists of two bedrooms, one bathroom, living area, dining area, kitchen and porch.

(a) Draw to a scale of 1:50, the completed floor plan to include:

(i) Wall thicknesses


(ii) Kitchen appliances and base cupboards
(iii) All doors and windows
(iv) Bathroom fixtures
(v) Names of all rooms
(vi) 10 external dimensions
(vii) 2 overall dimensions

(b) The outline of the gable roof is shown in Figure 1. Draw to a scale of 1:50,

(i) the front elevation


(ii) the side elevation (as seen in the direction of arrow “A”)

Show clearly ALL construction details.


Label ALL main construction members.
Print a suitable title and scale used at the base of EACH drawing.
Dimensions not given are left to the candidates’ discretion.

Answer ONE question from this section.

3. Make a neat, well-proportioned sketch to show a detailed sectional view of a sliding window in
a masonry wall.
Include hatching to show material representation. Label ALL main components of the window.

4. Figure 1 on the enclosed sheet shows the outline of the floor plan of a building and includes the
roof outline and position of point “X”.

With “X” as the lowest point, draw a neat, well-proportioned, three-dimensional sketch to illustrate
an exterior view of the building. Show ALL external features.
