GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Each candidate should have the following for this examination:

Traditional Drawing Method


Two sheets of drawing paper (both sides may be used)
Drawing instruments
Drawing board and T-square
Metric scale rule

Computer-Aided Drafting Method


A minimum of three sheets of size 11″ × 17″ paper
Personal computer with monitor, keyboard, mouse and printer
Computer-Aided Drafting software

NOTE: ALL solutions to questions attempted for this CAD Option MUST be PRINTED for
submission.

2. All dimensions are given in millimetres unless otherwise stated.

3. When first-angle or third-angle is not specified, the choice of projection is left to the candidate’s
discretion, in which case the type of projection used MUST be clearly stated.

4. Each candidate should use his/her own judgement to supply any dimension or detail not directly
shown on the drawings.

5. The number of each question answered MUST be written next to the solution.

6. Each candidate MUST enter his/her school code and registration number in the appropriate space
at the bottom right-hand corner of the drawing paper.

This paper has TWO sections: Section I, Working Drawing and Section II, Sketch and Design OR
3D Solid Model Design Drawing.

Answer ONE question from Section I and ONE question from Section II.

Candidates MAY use EITHER the Traditional Drawing Method OR the Computer-Aided Drafting
Method.

SECTION I – WORKING DRAWING

Answer ONE question from this section.

Do NOT spend more than 2½ hours on this section.

1. The outline of a floor plan for a typical cabin in a holiday resort is shown in Figure 1. The cabin
consists of a single bedroom with living area and kitchenette. It extends on to a verandah with a
suspended hardwood floor. The roof design is indicated on the drawing. A section A–A through
the building is shown in Figure 2.

(a) Draw to a scale of 1:50, using appropriate conventions, the foundation plan for the building.
The foundation consists of simple strip footings beneath the foundation walls and pad
footings beneath columns.

(i) Label the important elements in the foundation plan.

(ii) Show TEN important dimensions.

(b) Draw to a scale of 1:50, and in keeping with standard drawing practice, TWO elevations
of the building looking from the direction of both view 1 and view 2 as indicated in
Figure 1. The elevations should include:

(i) Window and door positions

(ii) Roof outline and fascia board

(iii) Clear indication of ground line

(iv) THREE important dimensions

The elevations MUST be labelled and correctly dimensioned.

Print a suitable title and the scale used at the base of EACH drawing.

Dimensions not given are left to the discretion of the candidate.

Specifications

Walls: ALL walls – concrete blocks, 150 mm thick, plastered on both sides

Columns: 300 mm × 300 mm

Doors: External and internal – Flush doors, 900 mm wide × 2000 mm high
Bathroom – Flush doors, 750 mm wide × 2000 mm high
Verandah – Glass panel double doors, 1800 mm wide × 2000 mm high

Windows: All windows – Glass louvres, 180 mm wide × 1200 mm high


Bathroom – Wooden louvres, 600 mm wide × 600 mm high

Roof: Roof covering – Aluminium sheeting


Rafters – 50 mm × 150 mm @ 600 mm centres with roof overhang of 600 mm
Fascia board – 50 mm × 200 mm

Floors: Verandah – 25 mm × 150 mm tongue and groove hardwood flooring on 50 mm ×


150 mm timber joists
Cabin – Tiles on 100 mm thick RC slab on 20 mm thick sand screed with 200 mm
hardcore base

Foundation: RC strip footing 200 mm thick × 600 mm wide with a 200 mm concrete block
foundation wall filled with concrete
300 mm × 300 mm concrete columns on 900 mm × 900 mm concrete pad footings

Height of finished floor to top of RC ring beam – 2800 mm

Top of ridge board above wall plate – 1300 mm

NOTE: Standard drawing practices and conventions for producing working drawing foundation
plans and elevations are to be followed.

(i) Internal and external walls

(ii) ALL windows and doors

(iii) Kitchen appliances, cupboards and cabinets

(iv) Bathroom fixtures

(v) Names of ALL rooms

(vi) TEN important dimensions (interior and exterior) to include: overall dimensions,
room dimensions, openings and wall change in direction.

(b) Draw to a scale of 1:20, the sectional detail (B–B) indicated in Figure 1 and Figure 2,
showing details of the concrete floor and the suspended timber floor. Clearly label and
dimension the construction components.

The drawing MUST be labelled and correctly dimensioned.

Print a suitable title and the scale used at the base of EACH drawing.

Dimensions not given are left to the discretion of the candidate.
