Summary CV of the Appointed Person’s Craneage experience
Name: Paul Gane
Relevant Qualifications: Appointed Persons - Appointed person (Lifting Operations)

• The Appointed Person who has prepared this Method Statement/ Lifting Plan and carries full responsibility for the safe
completion of all works carried out during the operation. It is the responsibility of The Appointed Person to ensure that the Lift
Supervisor and any change of Lift Supervisor are adequately briefed on the contents of this method statement.

4. Name and Training achievements of Signalers / Slingers

Name: Achievement:
TBC All Labour - CPCS / CSCS / NPORS Qualification for Slinger / Banksman and lift supervisor. Site Records

The Slinger/Signaler will be:

• Trained and hold a valid CPCS/CSCS / NPORS card for slinging / signaling with the relevant endorsement.
• Authorized by the A.P. to carry out their duties.
• Generally fit and healthy with good eyesight, hearing, reflexes and agility and be physically able to handle the lifting accessories.
• Able to establish weights, balance loads and judge heights, distances and clearances
• Trained in slinging/signaling techniques and be familiar with the relevant Schedule of Common Lifts. Be aware of load prior to
lifting
• Capable of directing the safe movement of a machine and load with clear, precise instructions.
• Aware of their responsibilities and their limits.

The Slinger/Signaler Duties will include:

• The selection and use of the correct lifting accessories in accordance with written Lifting Plans and Method Statements.
• Ensuring that all loads attached to a hook are secure, stable with no loose items by performing a test lift and then detaching the load
and accessories.
• Initiating and directing safe movement of machines and loads of different sizes.
• Carrying out pre-use and post-use checks of lifting accessories.
• Ensure that if there is more than one Slinger/Signaler, they are clear who is responsible for communication at any one time. They
must clearly communicate any transfer of responsibility to each other and the crane operator depending on their positions relative to
the crane.
• Implementing and monitoring lifting exclusion zones.

Crane Supervisors will;

• Be authorized and appointed by the Lead Appointed Person to undertake their duties
• Be competent, suitably trained and experienced with sufficient time to carry out their duties and fully conversant with the duties of
other members of the lifting team.
• Be present and free to observe and advise on the lifting process in the general location of the lifting operations for which they are
responsible.
• Be aware of their responsibilities and their limits.
• Prior to commencement of any lifting operation the crane supervisor must ensure that all site personnel are adequately briefed on
the contents of any lifting plan. Briefings will take place by the form of a short ‘toolbox talk’.
• The crane supervisor must liaise with the appointed person should site circumstances require material change to the methods to be
employed during the operation.
The duties of the crane supervisor include the following;
• Give clear, unambiguous instructions to all members of the team under their control.
• Identify any new risks when circumstances change, inform the A.P. for clarification and validation. Only then can method
statements and Lifting Operations Assessment Forms (LOAF) Parts 1 & 2 be revised.
• Stop operations if they consider them unsafe and report any problems to the appointed person.
• Attend crane team meetings and briefings.

The crane supervisor need not be an exclusive role and may form part of the duties of a foreman or supervisor for example, complexity of the
lifts requires direct attendance however crane supervisors must be available and present on site.
