I had my very first zoom session with the Mayo Clinic Career Exploration program. This session discussed radiology
and radiologic technology. Unfortunately, the zoom session was cut short due to technical difficulties at the Mayo
Clinic, and I never got to see the actual imaging portion of the zoom session. While the zoom was still up and
functioning, I got to see from a physician’s perspective of a physical exam. I got to examine common abnormalities in
a physical exam ranging from enlarged lymph nodes to supraspinatus. During the radiology portion of the zoom, I
learned about diversity within the field of radiology. There are many types of radiologic technologies including
Ultrasound, X-ray, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Computer Tomography (CT). I also learned that
radiologists deal with a variety of patients, and their situations are always different. I really liked that because every
day for a radiologist is not very repetitive.

I had another zoom session with the Mayo Clinic Career Exploration program. This session discussed the careers of
neurologists and clinical neurophysiology technicians. I got to learn about the different nerves and their impact on the
body. I wish that the presentation would have gone into more detail about the process of becoming a neurologist. If
medical school and residency were required, that might discourage me from entering the neurology field. I did enjoy
getting to see how much of an impact neurology has on an individual, however it did seem intimidating because there is
no room to make errors.

Again I visited my mentor, Justin Streiff, and interviewed him. I asked Justin to describe the process that got him into his
career as an athletic trainer. After I was enlightened by Justin’s personal experience of career-searching. He advised me
to keep my options open and to make sure the career is tailored to me. My future career must be realistic to me. For
example, if I want a family, medical school and residency may not be best for me. Justin also explained to me the
importance of being passionate about my career.
