the glance of new rhetoric:dramatism (tulis secara garis besar theory new rhetoric ;
dramatism) .

Dramatism is a theory that positions itself in the search for an understanding of

action in human life as drama.

The originator of the theory of dramatism is Kenneth Burke, a self-taught person

in the fields of literary criticism, philosophy, communication, sociology, economics,
theology, and linguistics.
Kenneth Burke's theory of drama compares life to a performance and argues that, as in a
theatrical scene, life requires the presence of an actor, a scene, some means for a scene to
occur and a purpose.
Dramatic assumptions There are three assumptions from dramatism theory, as follows:

 Humans are symbols-using animals.

Burke realized that some of the things humans do are motivated by animal
instincts and some are motivated by symbols. For example, someone who drinks
tea in the morning, with the aim of quenching his thirst, a form of animal instinct.

 Language and symbols form a system that is very important to humans.

Of all the symbols used by humans, language is the most important to Burke. It is
very difficult to think about concepts or objects without words. So people are
limited in what they can understand, because of the limitations of their language.
When humans use language, they are also used by certain languages.

 Humans are choice makers.

The basis of dramatism theory is human choice. this is related to the
conceptualization of agency or the ability of social actors to act as their choice.
Dramatism as the New Rhetoric
Dramatism is the new rhetoric. The difference with the old rhetoric is that the new
rhetoric places more emphasis on identification and this can include factors that are
partially "unconscious" in submitting their statements besides the old rhetoric
emphasizing persuasion and planned design.

Identification and Substance

Substance (the general nature of something) can be described in a person by
listing demographic and background characteristics and facts about the current situation,
such as talents and occupations. Burke argues that when there is overlap between two
people in their substance, they have identification (when two people have overlap in their
substance). The greater the overlap that occurs, the greater the identification that occurs.
The converse is also true, the smaller the degree of individual overlap, the greater the
separation (when two people fail to have overlap in their substance).

Pentad
In addition to developing the theory of dramatism, Burke (1954) created a method
for applying his theory to an understanding of symbolic activity. That method is pentad (a
method for applying dramatization). These things are considered to analyze symbolic
texts, namely:
1. Action (something done by someone).
2. Scene (the context surrounding the action).
3. Agent (person who performs the action).
4. Agency (means used to perform actions).
5. Purpose (the end result that the agent has from an action).
6. Attitude (the way in which agents position themselves relative to other elements).
We use the pentad to analyze a symbolic interaction, the analyzer first determines an
element of the pentad and identifies what happens in a particular action. After labeling
the points of the pentad and explaining them thoroughly, the analysis then studies the
dramatic ratios (the proportions of one element of the pentad compared to the other
elements).
b. case study: dramatism descriptive, analysis, and solution.
Case study dramatization is: the trial of the Ferdy Sambo case where the case was
determined by Ferdy Sambo as a drama showing the scene of the police and investigators
reconstructing the murder of Joshua, Actors confront actors, stage confronts stage,
thoughts confront thoughts, victimization confronts victimization and so on .These
situations become a scene. While inside The scene contains events and the actors
involved perform communication actions. What they state in a variety of different
situations can be a source of data for analyzing these cases so that it will be seen who is
moralizing and who is being sacrificed through their communication actions. In a
complete statement of the motives in the cases such offers a number of types of answers
to five questions: What was done (act), when or where it was done (scene), who did it
(agent), how did he do it (agency) and why (purpose). The five elements of Act, Scene,
Agent, Agency and Purpose are then referred to as Pentad Analysis.

This Pentad Analysis is in view of Dramatism Theory of a kind Grammar of

motives (Grammar of Motives) which pays attention to the terms where the potentials of
the use of these terms they use in their actual statements. More broadly, the Grammar of
Motives can design philosophically the various statements in which these terms are used.
Whether statements are sporadic, contemporary or systematic, motivational drives can be
considered as fragments of a broad philosophy that takes a sharp look at the position of
humans as beings of communication. The solution that can be obtained is to use pentad
analysis, of course it can provide elements of act, agent, scene, agency and purpose which
are intended to show how the functions of the symbols they design work in the inclusion
of the motives of these symbolic actions.

c. live is drama how you take part in that drama?

Drama. One word that I think is enough to describe the life and interactions between
humans in it. There are many spheres of life that we live and experience as human beings,
including relationships with ourselves, family, friends, to partners. Every human being, of
course, must experience the ups and downs of the bitter sweetness of life.
and how do I take part in the life of this drama:
 focus
when you start to focus on what you are doing, everything will be better, as well
as in life so you can avoid stress and frustration.
 build self-motivation
If you want something but just stand idly by, what will come is fear of uncertainty
of direction and purpose. Just follow the flow because the effort will not betray
the results.
 give thanks
Whatever happens in this life we must be grateful because all of this is a gift from
God.
 Don't mind what other people say
Sometimes other people's words that can destroy trust, just do what you do.
