Let’s talk about it!

1. How these personalities influenced and helped Jose become an excellent public servant and
nationalist?

A. Sotero laurel

Sotero laurel made a big role in Jose P. Laurel’s life. Sotero laurel is the father of Jose P. Laurel
that died in a camp established by Americans. Because of his father’s death in grew up rebelling against
a harsh system of discipline of time a result of the Spanish system education. As she grew older he
realized that the opportunities for his ambitions are limited in his hometown. Then he sees himself
studying in manila at San Juan De Letran where his father studied.

B. Jacoba Garcia

Jacoba Garcia is Jose P. Laurel’s mother, who always worries and concerned about him. When
Jose P. Laurel decided to study at San Juan de Letran. He got good marks in some subjects like Latin and
Algebra but he failed is first year at Letran because he fail a subject. His mother is very disappointed in
him. She had high hopes and expectation for him. Because of his mother disappointment he realize how
thin the lines between failure and success. From then on he set his studies straight. I found out that the
subject that cost his failure were those affected by his engagement with the hometown orchestra. So
Jose P. Laurel decided to drop his participation in the orchestra and find another job and transfer to
manila high school.

C. Thomas Street

Jose P. Laurel enrolled in the college of law at the University of the Philippines after graduating
from high school because he needed to work his way through the law course and with the added
responsibility of supporting a family, he needed to find another job, which he found at the office of the
code committee. The new job field fit in nicely with the college course he was enrolled in. Develop a
strong mental bond with the man who aided the community, justice Thomas Atkins Street, whose
thought impacted Jose P Laurel considerably.

D. Paciencia hidalgo

Jose P. Laurel’s determination to transform himself from a carefree and careless youth to a
determined persistence in the pursuit of success took a lot of strength of character and bravery.
Paciencia hidalgo is the wife of Jose P. Laurel that he married after graduating high school. Jose P.Llaurel
love his wife greatly, that nurse his wife for the last seven years because of his wife he decided that he
wouldn’t run for president because you wanted to take care of her and that brings him joy.

2. What do you think are the important contributions of Jose P. Laurel in the following government
position:

A. Senator

In my opinion the important contribution of Jose P. Laurel as senator is writing the bill of rights
provision of the constitution for the Filipino, because of the bill of rights Filipino has given every rights to
have and speaks as they please.

B. Associate justice of the Supreme Court

He produced some gems in court literature in his special interest and social justice.

C. President

He succeeded many times in out witting the Japanese doggedly Refusing to knuckle under the
pressure of Japanese the passion and interference in his administration. Laurel opposed the Roxas
sponsored move to amend the constitution in order to give the American equal right with the Filipino.
The lost the fight but consequent events proved his cause was right.

D. Senator (2nd term)

He authored and sponsored fundamental legislations among which are Republic Act No.1425
which included in the curriculum of all public and private colleges and universities courses on the life
and works of Jose Rizal, particularly the Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo and Republic Act No. 1124
that created the board of national education charged with the duty of formulating general education
policies and directing the education interest of our nation.
