LAB 4 KIRCHHOFF’S LAWS

Figure: Resistive Circuit

1. What is Kirchhoff’s current law? Apply Kirchhoff’s current law for the above circuit at
junctions A, B, C, D. (35pts)

The first law of Kirchhoff, which is concerned with charge conservation as it enters and exits
a junction and states that the total current entering a junction or a node equals the charge
leaving the node as no charge is lost. Kirchhoff’s current law is being enforced at the
following junctions,

A: I0 = I1 + I2.

B: I4 + I2 = I0.

C: I1 + I5= I2.

D: I3 = I5 + I3.

2. What is Kirchhoff’s voltage law? How many loops are there in the above circuit? Apply
Kirchhoff’s voltage law for those loops. (35pts)

Kirchhoff's second law, which is concerned with energy conservation in a closed circuit
route, and states that the voltage around a loop equals the sum of every voltage drop in the
same loop for any closed network and equals zero. The circuit above have 3 loops.
Kirchhoff’s current law is being enforced at the following loop:

0 = V0 – I3R3 – I4R4.

0 = V0 – I1R1 – I2R2.

0 = V0 + I5R5 – I3R3.
