PREPOSITION

It is a word or group of words used to show place, position or time of noun or pronoun in the
same sentence.

There are three types of preposition:


A. Time Preposition
B. Position Preposition
C. Place Preposition

A. Time Preposition:

1. He returned after 4 years.


2. I will come at 7 am.
3. I reached before 5 minutes.
4. I was in London during the winter.
5. I am living here for 6 months.
6. I was born in 2001.
7. He was absent since Tuesday.
8. I will be there till evening.
9. The ambulance arrived within 10 minutes.
10. We played chess until midnight.
11. His birthday on Sunday.

B. Position Preposition:

1. We went aboard the ship.


2. The red balls are around the blue box.
3. The book is above the box.
4. The red bar is lying across the wall.
5. The cat is behind the tree.
6. The pen is below the table.
7. I was beneath the tree.
8. He is waiting at the door.
9. He lives in Pune.
10. It is secret between me and you.
11. Divide the chocolate among the boys.
12. Divide the sweets amongst us.
13. He is under the observation.
14. The bathroom is over the kitchen.
15. He is far from me.
16. Ram is sitting before shyam.
17. My flat is on top of the building.
18. His house is opposite of post office.
19. Throw the ball away.
20. I was walking alongside of road.
21. There is a pole amidst of the village.
22. My house is in front of the school.
23. My pen is inside my pocket.
24. The ball is outside the box.
25. I went through the tunnel.
26. He is near to me.
27. Shirur is near to Pune.
28. He is out of the city.
29. Two is next to one.
30. My house is about 2 km from here.

C. Place Preposition:

1. The picture hangs above my bed.


2. They are walking along the beach.
3. I like being among people.
4. We are sitting around the fire.
5. Our house is behind the police station.
6. Temperature is below 10oc.
7. He is sitting beside me.
8. My house is between the school and the supermarket.
9. He lives in the house by the river.
10. I slept in the car.
11. You should stay inside the house.
12. You should not go into the school.
13. We should get on the bus.
14. I like to travel through the train.
15. I am going towards Pune.
16. The cat is under the table.
17. My house is near the school.
18. There is no bridge across the river.
19. He is before the Tejas.
20. Temperature is moving down rapidly.
21. The curd is made from milk.
22. He is waiting outside of the wall.
23. I arrived at the meeting.
24. The cat jumped off the roof.
25. The school is opposite of my house.
26. I jumped over the wall.
27. Go past the bank.
28. We are sitting round the table.
29. Ram hid a letter beneath a pillow.
30. The car is parked beyond the road.
31. He ran after her with the book.

CONJUNCTION
Conjunctions are the words used to connect two or more words, phrases, clauses or sentences.

There are two types of conjunctions:


A) Co-ordinating conjunctions.
B) Sub-Ordinating conjunctions.

A) Co-Ordinating Conjunction:

1. Me and my friend are going to Pune.


2. Not only Ram but also Sita is a Clever.
3. Both Ram and Sita are clever.
4. Sita is no less clever than Ram.
5. He is poor but honest.
6. It is still raining.
7. I have not done my homework yet.
8. I drink only water.
9. The girl ran because she was afraid.
10. He was feeling very ill. However he went to school.
11. My sisters are rich whereas I am poor.
12. Do you like tea or coffee?
13. I was sick, so I could not play.
14. You can either call me at home or the office.
15. Neither Ram nor his brother is very tall.
16. He came first therefore he got a good seat.
17. My arms hurt when swimming, hence I stopped swimming.
18. I wanted to go outside neverthless it is raining.
19. We decided to go someplace else for dinner.

B) Sub-Ordinating Conjunctions:

1. I had gone to bed when my friend arrived.


2. I can go wherever he likes.
3. My friend study computer science while I study English.
4. I am feeling better after taking medicine.
5. He was drawned since no one came to save to him.
6. As he is needy, I shall help him.
7. I shall not go, unless you allow.
8. He will not do it until you ask him.
9. No sooner he arrived than he was kidnapped.
10. If you go to school, I will come.
11. I read newspaper because it provides information.
12. The train reached the station before us.
13. The company treated me as though I were sitting.
14. Although the weather is cold, everybody is out.
15. I had hardly closed my eyes when he came.
16. Scarcely had I gone to bed when the doorbell ring.
17. Now go home and cook meat meals.
18. Even though it rained a lot, we enjoyed the holiday.
19. I will not go to school in case it rains.
20. You can call me whenever you want.
21. He shouted that he couldn’t swim.
