2. Capitalize proper nouns (names, countries,
nationalities, months, days, and holidays)

Period
1. To put a stop on one complete idea. (used
at the end of a sentence)
Example:

At the zoo, I saw some lions and tigers. I ate an

ice cream while I watched the monkeys.
Comma
1. Use it to separate words or items in a list.

Example: I have to buy ice cream, a cake,

chocolate, and a soda for the party.
2. Use it to separate the day of the month and
the year.

Ex: I was born on January 6th, 2020.

3. Use it before and after quotation marks (“”)
Ex:

“I watched the last Star Wars movie”, the teacher

said.

The students said, “Let’s watch it together

again!”
Exclamation Mark
1. Use it to express a strong feeling such as anger,
shock or surprise.
Ex:
Help!
You did a great job!
This movie is so interesting!
2. Used after giving a command.
Ex:

Stop!

Sit down!

Jake, don’t touch that!

Question Mark
1. Use it at the end of a question. Remember that
questions begin with what, who, where, when, why,
how, etc…
Ex:

What is your name?

Why are you coming here if it is forbidden?
