(iv). Name of Publisher: Secker & Warburg
(v). ISBN Number: 9780451524935
(vi). Genre: Fiction

(viii). Brief sketch of Major Characters:

1.Winston Smith: The protagonist and a low-ranking
member of the ruling Party who rebels against the oppressive
regime.
2. Julia: Winston's love interest and fellow rebel who
shares his discontent with the Party.
3. Big Brother: The figurehead and symbol of the
totalitarian Party who exercises complete control over the
lives of the citizens.
4. O'Brien: A high-ranking member of the Inner Party
who becomes both mentor and tormentor to Winston.
(ix). Character I liked the most: Winston Smith

(x). Why I liked that character:

Winston Smith's character represents the innate human desire
for freedom and individuality. Despite living in a dystopian
society, he exhibits courage and a rebellious spirit,
challenging the oppressive regime. His longing for truth and
his struggle to maintain his humanity in a dehumanizing
world make him a compelling and relatable character.

(xi). Character I hated the most: Big Brother

(xii). Why I hated that character:

Big Brother embodies the extreme totalitarianism and
manipulation of power. His constant surveillance, propaganda,
and control over every aspect of people's lives evoke feelings
of fear, oppression, and hatred. The character represents the
dehumanization and suppression of individuality, making him
despised by readers.

(xiii). Brief description of Storyline:

"Nineteen Eighty-Four" is set in a dystopian future where a
totalitarian regime, led by Big Brother, exerts complete
control over its citizens. Winston Smith, a disillusioned
member of the Party, begins to question the government's
authority and rebels in secret. He embarks on a forbidden love
affair with Julia, engaging in acts of defiance against the
Party's surveillance and oppression. As they challenge the
system, they face severe consequences and undergo intense
psychological manipulation.

(xiv). Did I like it or dislike it? Why?

I liked "Nineteen Eighty-Four" because it serves as a haunting
reminder of the dangers of totalitarianism and the importance
of individual freedom. Orwell's masterful portrayal of a bleak
and oppressive society, coupled with the exploration of
themes such as surveillance, thought control, and
manipulation, creates a thought-provoking and gripping
narrative. The book's relevance and ability to provoke
introspection and critical thinking make it a classic and
significant work of fiction.
