Paskuhan sa Gensan: Drum and Lyre tradition
This was my first time joining the drum and lyre competition for our Paskuhan sa
Gensan event last December 2019. It happened at the Gensan Oval Plaza. It was a
pleasant experience because this has been a tradition not just in our city but in some
places in the Philippines for generations to generations. This moment is involved in art
making because we played instruments like the drum and lyre; we also inculcated our
school’s palette to signify our identity. It is also engaged in art making because we
present what tradition we have followed for several years and were able to practice until
now. It creates memories and new stories about how younger generations today still
follow traditions that previous generations did, like playing Pinoy Christmas songs to
promote local music art to everyone.
