2 / 12
CONTEXT

 Open the amphitheatre system project (.xmlp), created from

tutorial PART 2/3
The show is broadcasted on TV and no front-fill system is
allowed. You need to cover the full audience from the main,
using the same enclosure inventory: 12 K2 and 10 Kara II.

 Propose a new design for the main line source

DEFINITION FOR COVERAGE

1. Save a system file for the legacy design (for example:

SystemWithFrontFills.xmlc)

2. Delete the "Front fills" group and switch back to 2D

Source layout
3. In SOURCE CUTVIEW of one of the K2 sources
4. Grab and move dmin flag to get full audience coverage

5. Click Autosplay(Init)
6. Save the system project (.xmlp)

3 / 12
DEFINITION FOR SPL

1. Assess feasibility of the SPL target

 The realized front-to-back SPL is about 5 dB higher than

in the defined target: the SPL target or the source should
be adjusted to feasible objectives.

 Many K2 are at maximum inter-element angles: angular

resolution is not good, more elements and/or downfill
elements with a greater inter-element angle are needed.

4 / 12
2. Add Kara II as dowfill elements to the K2 source
• Add 3 elements to the source,
• Change them to Kara II

3. Relaunch Autosplay(Init)

The preview of the front-to-back SPL now easily fits into defined SPL
target. If SPL is the main concern, the target could be set to an almost
constant SPL over the audience. However, this is a musical show and we
need to ensure homogeneity of the tonal balance as well (see part C).

4. Save the system project (.xmlp)

5 / 12
DEFINITION FOR TONAL BALANCE

1. In SPL TARGET, visualize the LF SPL profile by selecting

the appropriate frequency range (80–250) and clicking the
Autoscale button

Even before launching Autosplay(Optimize), it can be seen that

the target can be adjusted to aim a better LF contour homogeneity.
The LF is closer to a composite profile, with a pivot point around the
end of the blue zone.

2. Adjust the HF SPL profile to a composite target, for a

better match with the LF SPL profile, but keeping 6 dB
recommendation for front-to-back SPL
■ Move dref to the end of the first audience zone

6 / 12
 Set deltaSPL values for dmin (0dB) and dmax (- 6 dB)

5. Save the system project (.xmlp)

7 / 12
FINAL OPTIMISATION

1. Launch Autosplay(Optimize) and observe the results

2. In Electronic settings tab, set N// to Custom

8 / 12
3. Create groups of 2 K2 and 3 Kara II by ticking the
elements in the first column of the Groups list

4. Launch Autofilter(FIR) and observe the results

9 / 12
5. Observe the SPL(A) mapping in 3D SCENE

6. Save the system project (.xmlp)

10 / 12
SOLUTION MANAGEMENT

1. Import the previous system solution (withFrontFills.xmlc)

2. Rename the ALL groups according to the alternative

solution
3. Only let active one of the solution at a time
• For comparing results
• For saving the (.xmlp) file and importing it in LA
Network Manager

When opening a Soundvision project (.xmlp) in LA Network Manager, the hidden

groups are not imported.

4. Save the system project (.xmlp)
