Introduction

There are many things to consider in the business operation of large-scale

hog farms when it comes to hog raising. Hog raising mainly comprised of
feeding, growth monitoring, health sustainability, breeding, and most important,
pigpen cleaning/management. Achieving success in hog raising is not always
predictable since a lot of possible challenges can be encountered throughout the
process. The proponents do some discussion and local investigation and later
consider that traditional way of some local hog farms in dealing with pigpen
cleaning is a good topic to focus on since some of them are still using manual
cleaning of livestock buildings particular in Batangas area.
According to Braithwaite et al. (2005), the use of high or low pressure
cleaning technology is a tedious and health-threatening task conducted by
human labor in intensive livestock production. In agriculture manual cleaning of
livestock buildings is widely based on high-pressure water cleaners. The concept
is unappealing to workers, because it is one of the most laborious and health
threatening tasks to be conducted by humans. The cleaning process itself
contributes to deterioration of the working environment due to the penning up of
dirt, microorganisms and water, which will be inhaled by the operator. (Strom et
al. 2003).

According to Arnoldmachine.com (n.d.), human labor is slower and has a
possibility of safety risk due to human error compared to automated processes.
Automation has led to increased labor productivity as fewer workers are needed
to produce a good quality performance.
Nowadays, there are some livestock farms in the country that are using
automation like the Cavite Pig City, near General Trias, Cavite which uses
automated feeding system to improve their production (Beek V.T., 2015). In other
countries like Sweden and Germany hog pen cleaner robots are manufactured
and marketed like the “Evo Cleaner robot”. EVO Cleaner is a unique and
patented washing robot developed for pig barns. The robot streamlines and
enables automatic washing around the clock. The robot can do the optimal
washing routine. It is completely designed according to a specific barn interior
and washing needs. What is considered limitation of this system is that it only
operates when there are pigs outside the pigpen to be cleaned. (envirologic.se,

The purpose of this study was to create and design an automated hog
cleaning system that will help maintain hogs hygiene and properly clean the
piggery farms without the need of removing the hogs inside the pigpen. In
addition, this study aimed to provide improvement to the previous study
conducted by Milan et al., (De La Salle Lipa alumni 2018). For the design of
